Thread: Keeping track of your media

    Keeping track of your media

I've been dying to ask you guys a long time, but every time I do in chat/spam, I feel like it's overlooked.

Since it's a fairly interesting topic, I thought I'd create a thread instead.

What do you guys use to keep track of your media? (e.g. tv shows, movies and even music)

Ever since setting up a media center, I've become more and more obsessed with indexing all my stuff (even the things I get rid of since I don't like them all too much). My initial idea was to hook up with friends and see what they are currently into and the other way around. Sadly, no one of my friends seems to be interested/can be arsed to do so.

I've tried out several things and currently I'm totally rocking a trakt.tv account for tv shows and movies and google music for my (...*drumroll*...) music. For anime specific things, trakt works fine as well, but I've still got quite an interest in maintaining my anidb, myanimelist and hummingbird.me accounts as well. Trakt can be a bit annoying for long running anime shows though, but lately only naruto and one piece are left on that list so it's not too bad. I just wish trakt would have an android app I could get used to... (Or mobile site)

So, what are you guys rocking? If anything?

In case someone is interested in connecting on any of these, send me a pm and i'll make it so!

I like to keep it simple and I just use listal.com for all my stuff (books, movies, games, anything).

Cool, thanks for the alternative. Does it also keep track of watched status and allows voting on how good you think the content is?

It's got rating but it AFAIK it doesn't follow watched status. Could you explain what that means, by the way?

I use Extreme Movie Manager for movies and tv shows
For my music I just simply have subfolders organized the way I want

In my trakt list, I add everything I own. Owning something doesn't mean I have watched the movie/series yet. Every time I watch an ep or movie, I mark it as watched and immediately vote on it. That way I always have some sort of list with things to pick from when I want to watch something new/see where I left off. By voting on things, trakt also has a way to give out suggestions depending on what I and others with similar votes like, so even if my list does run out, I don't have to look very hard to find the next thing I want to watch.

I'm guessing those are local use only?

Personally don't have anything apple, but I can see the value in the app! nice find! Too bad it's just for (american?) tv and not movies/music as well.

I automate a lot of my downloading. While these apps are mostly for usenet, they can be set up with trackers too. They also double up so to show what you got, what you don't and what quality it is in.

nzbdrone (Tv shows) - nzbdrone - Cut the cord
    Headphones (music) - https://github.com/rembo10/headphones
    CouchPotato (movies) - https://couchpota.to/

All of these are compatible with windows, mac and linux.

Except i'm not talking about automated downloading. Nor am I talking about downloading at all, but about keeping a library of what you own and possibly share that with friends.

Sickbeard is also good for tv shows, btw.

And somehow I don't like any of the android ones :( Except for mizuu... but that app is way too expensive.

Edit: oh cool, they've open sourced it! https://github.com/MizzleDK/Mizuu
    ( https://github.com/MizzleDK/Mizuu/releases.atom )

Edit 2: I take it back... Mizuu is awesome but only if the main focus is managing your stuff through the app rather than through trakt..
i feel like most of these apps offer trakt integration as a side note, rather than the full blown solution i'm looking for in the app :(

These apps also track what you have and what you don't. I.E. If you have a tv show and you happen to be missing episode 2 of season 3 for show X, it will know and will update when/if you decide to get it. The same goes for music.
