    The KeePass Thread

    What is KeePass?
KeePass is a free, open source, light-weight and easy-to-use password manager.

    Why do you need it?
Possibilities are endless here. It can be used for:
    • auto-typing user and password data at login prompts
    • password generator
    • form auto-fill
    • possibility of having unque, strong passwords on every site while having to remember only one
    • storing sensitive information, not just login entries
    • sync login entries between devices (tablet, phone, laptop, pc)

    Installation?
It comes in both portable and installer. Can easily be put on a USB stick or memory card and use on the fly.

I'm trying to add an attached file to autofill.

    Something like:
    Code:
    S:file.rsa
But it only works for text placeholders and not attachments. Any ideas?

Please elaborate what are you trying to do ? you want to pass just a path of a file or you want to pass the actual file itself ?

I have a key file attached to an entry (file.rsa). I want to use it as a placeholder within the url field as so cmd://app.exe -source {s:file.rsa}. I want to pass the actual file to the program.

Thanks for that. I'm confronting myself with a new problem that I just cannot figure it out.

I have installed the keeAgent plugin and I had a rsa key added to it.
Problem is that I've moved the location of the entry containing the file and now when I try to add the key to keeAgent it gives me:

Did you attached the file first before using it with Keeagent ?
Try to use the file as external not attached and tell me if it works

It works from an external location.
Itegrating the key works, it asks for the passphrase and all is OK. However, when I open the database I get the same error as above.

No. I installed the plugin several months ago and integrated the key after I installed the plugin. This worked well for months but I changed the entry location from one folder t another and it probably screwd up something within the db.

Your installation is portable version ? if so try to setup a normal version and open the database in it after setup all your plugins again and see what happens

It's not portable but I'll try to remove the plugin and reinstall it.

I tried all except uninstalling keepass. I reinstalled the plugin, changed the key (rename + resave from PUTTYGEN) and nothing.
Whatever it is, it ain't the key.

    I fixed it.
The problem was that I didn't add the password to the entry. I forgot the passphrase is taken from the password entry.
Sorry for my stupidity and thanks for your help.

Auto-type is very useful and with Keepass you don't depend on a third party like with LastPass.
Just remmeber to update your passwords if you're banned and get another account, or you'll get screwed like I did
