Exactly. I detest this "feature" since power savings are minimal (in the context of a computer connected to mains power) and stress is placed on the motor and heads from the constant spinups.

In many cases they're cheaper and just as good, which is why people deshuck externals and use them for their NAS or simply as regular storage. Depends on the brand, model and local prices, and of course, such a process means saying goodbye to the warranty.

A fairly unknown fact: multi-terabyte 2.5" HDDs are taller than usual, approximately the size of three "normal" ones. You can only pack so much data in one or two platters after all.

So how do I disable this? And is it safe?

I suggest giving at least Lonely Yuri a try though, it's short and has no branches, so it won't derail you for too long.
I've started reading moonlight garden. It's good :) Thx! Lilymanga is great.

Wouldn't know where to start there. But I think the stuff in the thread isn't hard to follow if you take some time for it. The only caveat I can think of is that WDIDLE3 is a DOS program, and in some newer computers you may not even be able to boot to real-mode DOS anymore, but there's a Linux port called idle3ctl.

Yeah, everyone uses Google now, but it's weird to reinstall a computer and not have an offline program to edit these files Office 2019 is usable if you turn off all the settings that ask you to use OneDrive or die, and the alternatives aren't as compatible.

Anyway, when it comes to generation2's torrents, I prefer to grab Office separately to be able to install it in the OS of my choice. Last computer I had to repair had 2 GB of soldered(!) RAM and Windows 10 would not have worked very well.

I do need Office, but that's not what I was referring to, my bad for not explaining properly. I was wondering if I should use the OEM windows or the other release? If I understand right, if you install OEM windows and if you change anything on your pc, it breaks the windows?

What about this for an alternative. On that WD external HDD I have emule.exe, and when it's running in the background hdd never goes idle. You think this is ok?

That no longer happens unless you swap the motherboard or kill the SLIC table by flashing a modded BIOS. Also, in my experience all of generation2's releases give you the choice of STD (manual activation), OEM (automatic activation) and DAZ (for maritime criminals) even if not listed in the title or description.

Well, I suppose that works out. Just disable APM and you're set.

I got my new PC yesterday
I installed Windows 10, but for some reason, when I turn on pc, it shows me two versions. I think one is partition 5 and other is 3. If I go to C drive there's Windows.old and its 129 bytes big. Not sure why this happened, I formatted all drives before I started with install.
Should I install all drivers for my MB? I got the CD with it, but I don't have cd/dvd unit, so I have to buy a portable one.

One thing I can't believe I didn't notice. My old PC has more USB ports than this one. I'm kinda upset I didn't notice this earlier. Now I need to buy a USB hub. This might be good? TP-Link USB 3.0 hub UH400

sounds like windows upgraded from 8 or 7 somehow but that's weird on a fresh install.

Anyway, you can find everything that they gave you on a CD, and newer, on the manufacturers websites. Just download em :)

I know you can get drivers from MB site, but I don't know if I should just download everything?

Is there a way to edit explorer? Why are my disk shown twice?
