Subrashii .. Well in 1 month i'll be out of job. My bond completed with this company and due to covid , they are not giving me hike so i resigned. Turns out there's not much jobs for Java developer in my area either . So i got 1 month to get this done. What about you?

One month? I remember when you had just signed the contract and we were all worried about you being stuck at that company for so long, time passes fast. Anyway, with the boom in telecommuting, it may not matter much if your region or even country doesn't have the position you're looking for. There are lots of offers in Stack Overflow and Crossover, definitely worth looking into.

Me, I'm getting by as usual, and now with all the peace and joy of the holiday season on top. At least yesterday some friends and I had a barbecue after not meeting since January; one of them sadly didn't come due to internal politics within our group, but the rest of us had fun

For how much Covid has sucked so far, forcing everyone to work from home and showing the world it's something that just works, is really a good thing. We used to work one day a week from home, when things go back to "normal", I'm pretty sure we'll still be working at least 3 days from home.

Employees love it because they don't need transportation and have flexible schedules, companies love it because they can keep costs down. I'm too traditional and would rather keep work at work and let home be home, but right now's not the time to be choosy, and I can't deny that to some extent telecommuting is here to stay.

Also, video chatting sucks, Bill Gates or Brazzers should invent the headsets from Corrector Yui or Virtuacall 2 already

I've been working from home since March. I'm definitely getting sick of being home _all_ the time. I agree to some extent that keeping home home and work at the office is a good thing. The lines do tend to blend together a bit and you have to be strict with yourself. That being said, that extra hour of sleep in the morning is lovely.

Well this morning my laptop died. Its stuck on lenovo logo.. Fcuk.. I recovered my pictures from my hdd ..
I have another HDD of my old laptop and i have pictures on it too and 40 gb approx. But its locked via bitlocker and i neither have the file nor the password. Do u have any idea what to do. This just keeps getting better. fcuk u 2020

If you synced your BitLocker recovery key to a Microsoft account, sign in and visit https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey to retrieve it or ask the NSA to use the backdoor Bill Gates totally didn't include. Other than that, you're done for. If you encrypt something and lose all copies of the private key, the data is lost forever. That's how reliable, well implemented and correctly used encryption is and should be.

I have nothing. No password ,no recovery key, no synro with Microsoft but I got luck. For no reason I tried gmail's old password and it worked. Life is full of surprises.

Just a day after you posted that, my main backup HDD started giving CRC errors and now isn't recognized at all. I am not in a position to lose the data inside it or buy a new one Let's see what happens...

Update: took it to a professional data recovery firm. They gave me a free quote and reported that the "read/write head is damaged [with] possible damage on platter surfaces". Worrying, but they say there's a good chance of success. I had to give a $100 advance on the full price of almost $500, but they say they'll refund everything if they can't recover the data or I'm somehow not satisfied with the service. Around two hours ago, the ticket status changed from "awaiting advance" to "in progress"... we'll see.

Whatever the outcome, learn from my mistake, all of you. I had spare storage for duplicating backups, I just got lazy. To my credit, the disk failed all of a sudden with no previous warning signs, after four years of ownership and around one and a half years of usage (power-on hours). This makes me wonder, what is a reliable form of keeping backups if an external drive isn't, online storage isn't, you have some 1700 GB of data and can't afford stuff like RAID or multi-bay NAS?
