such shows are definitely not designed to uphold childish innocence, more like the opposite
the high ranking of a show in the age of corruption means it is likely highly corrupt too, since corruption is supported by the authorities (in this case: the critics and producers) as well as the society (viewer opinion), not to mention the frequent fake reviews/votes adding to the distortion of views and values
Trust and betrayal is one the best OVA's I've even seen. Its still ranked 1 in my book. I don't know what the sales r and what the ranking is.. But the animation, direction, story line,action is just perfect IMO. Plus u need to watch the whole series and then the OVA itself to give actual review not 1 short clip from you tube.
Btw the it was made in 1996 so i know animation is falls short wrt to today's animation. The trust's betrayal's animation was amazing and it has darker tone to it too..

Which reminds me I need to see this again, been so long since I first watched it. Me and friends used to refer to this as the "past OVA", in opposition to the "future OVA" which showed Himura's destiny, etc.

One might argue that the old animation has more charm, as everything today tends to go towards moe and back in the day stuff like Akira was so groundbreaking it literally changed the entire world.
from what i saw, the animation is fine; the action and story (wiki) are average at best and pretentious at worst - seems a good deal of its popularity is based on hype (as usual), bloody violence (fans) and some less obvious historical connections regarding japan's past (critics)
I'll watch it when I'm in "anime watching" mood. I know a lot of ppl say this one is one of best!
Speaking of great anime, this has to be posted... Oregairu season three!
I've been waiting for this ever since finishing season two (there was a second OVA in between, but it sucked). Sadly the trailer is ambiguous regarding when we'll actually see it.

Man it has to be really good to get me interested in the third season though.

not a single one of all these clips makes me want to get even just one full episode to check it out... and thats actually good news (very low attachment to this genre)
You didn't like it? I like this series a lot, it starts out as a decent (and often amusing) slice of life story, before the focus shifts to the relationships between the members of the service club and things take a more dramatic turn.
