it will, give it some time

as said before, everything helps, that's why its there, to help you, but it won't play out exactly the way you want it to be or expect it to be, it has a 'mind' of its own

Today I had to come up with a way of creating iso images from folders, using only built-in tools in a automated manner (ie scripted). We had an executable that was seen as a virus and the only way to get passed security was to includ it in an iso image. Antiviruses will not touch any infected items inside images --they cannot quarantine them.

So I created the script, is a lovely thing. vbs rolled out embedded in cmd, IMAPI2FS is the object that creates the image.

I would buy Windows, because it lets me run all the other programs

A good OS or software is that which allows you to easily do whatever you want to do. Meaning: if I want X, I shouldn't be forced to use hacks or workarounds.
Windows never works right out of the box without 9999 hacks to get something working.

Windows doesn't require ten thousand hacks to use unless you have some really specific setup

I'm pretty sure windows works out of the box for 99% of the people out there, even~
Not saying windows is the best ever but I'm definitely not having to do the things in windows like back in the xp days

Don't get me wrong, it does work out of the box for normal users. But in a corporate environment where you must have specific tasks and configuration, there is just no support from microsoft. Anything that is not default is very hard achieve.

For instance, off the top of my head:
    • you cannot install a windows update without it having to spend XX hours checking updates from microsoft
    • you cannot rename printers without admin, and you cannot get admin rights for explorer.exe
    • you cannot delete/overwrite system without trusted installer, which you cannot easily get
    • you cannot get a descriptive BSOD without using 3rd party tools
    • cannot associate static drive letters, one must settle with drives A and B
    • cannot install old drivers without having them signed by microsoft, must disable intgrity check which does not work anymore
    • cannot reset system to factory unless you use sysprep, and sysprep is limited to 3 and also cannot sysprep if part of domain
    • cannot format as fat16 even though you have a floppy
    • cannot format as UDF, cannot format as FAT32 larger drives
    • bootmgr cannot boot from logical drives
    • cannot set where to look for drivers, and order of search (local/microsoft)
    • cannot turn off UEFI unless windows is first booted or drive is formatted
    • cannot install without creating recovery partition
    • cannot migrate printers, network drives
    • cannot change ip of printers/network drives
    • cannot install any security applications without windows defender turned off
    • network drives credentials don't refresh without explorer restart
    • 8.1 search includes only metro apps, real applications are not listed --depends on where they are placed

... without a form of edit, either config files or regedit, or script workarounds.

They made it easier for regular users, not for professionals.

One last example: I wanna install MySQL workbench, but cannot install it without Visual C++, to install Visual C++ I need one update from microsoft, that cann only be installed after you install a bigger one, and that can only be installed after you install a smaller one.
Those last 3 updates cannot be downloaded via microsoft website, they must be downloaded from a WSUS server or by using online offline update download tools.
~2 hours for installing 60MB application? I am supposed to believe this is still not microsoft's fault right?

That's a more elaborate reply With that said, I don't think any OS is perfect on this regard.
