I taught my mom how to use her new mobile phone today. Within a few hours she was calling and sending messages and voice clips and shit. Pretty great considering I don't know how to use post-2009 smartphones or WhatsApp in the first place

Just got my self a floppy disk module. i was very surprised, had no idea these existed.
These are rare because they were builkt for laptops back in the they, so they have internal small factor IDE but they also have a micro USB connection.

It is a dell floppy drive module mpf82e 6y185-a01

Microsoft is fighting for position, they are ordering CPU manufacturers to only work with Windows 10 and newer. Meaning a laptop bought in 2017, top-model, will not work with any previous edition of windows.
10 years ago they created UEFI by microsoft's orders. That was a forced standard.
Then they stopped making drivers for older versions of windows.
Now it's this crap.

Companies will not be too happy about this. Not even those home users won't like it.
I so wish 2017 will be the end of Microsoft.

I have used many floppy disks when I was a kid, the 5.25 one and the 3.5 one. But I knew there was a bigger one, that I have never touched, it was the size of a vinyl.

The good thing is that they can be set to legacy automatically using powershell. That's what I did for the company that I work for in order to save time.
I regret it now though ... but at least I've gained the experience.

You mean the 8" one. I have also never used them and only seen them in pictures.

More recently (late 2007), I was walking with a friend when I found another huge stack on the ground, 3.5" this time - and no one was there to stop me. I grabbed them all and ended up having to take the bus home. Imagine a teenager holding three piles of floppies with one arm and slowly reaching out for coins to pay the fare with the other, and you've got me. I'd like to say I still have those, but I left most of them behind at my old office (my hoarding problem was already bad enough).

However, I still have this box with many colored floppies (from when those were trendy) and a few stacks of black ones. And I got scammed once by being sold 720 KB ones as 1.44 MB ones

I remember how we used the super advanced technique for protecting the medias from overwriting, by using a sticker on the dent in the right side. There was also a trick that you could make a dent yourself on the left side so that you could write on the back side of the disk, don't remember if it worked all time and all the brands though. Ah the memories.

I had those too. Had the box as well as the 8'' floppy and used them too.
Most of the collection was Maxell and BASF. I had about 500 floppies, which included 3.5, 5.25 and 8. Threw them all away when I had 14 years old because I thought, back then, floppies were old and useless.

On a side note, I've found one of my old loved songs, sung by Ofra Haza which passed away so young.
This particular shows the beauty and sexiness of women which did not need have to show any body parts or wear skimpy clothes. It was a different time.
