Make sure you don't use the memory reader on modded uTorrent builds, for example - it can lead to problems.

can't get it to work with already precompiled version of rtorrent on windows rTorrentOnWindows (no need for Cygwin > download section > rTorrent 0.8.9-0.12.9). Memory Reader search fails no matter what (proper client version, same name for the process, starting/stopping etc.) I suppose the only way is copying peer id & key manually from rtorrent client unless somebody got better idea.
