    reinventing hot water?

since cellphones are already mimicking pc's or pc functionality in so many areas, why not do it in terms of component modularity/standardization, so manufacturers can focus on whichever component they specialize in (or brand-only) - users will also probably spend more on various upgrades by the time they buy brand new cellphones

    Parable of the Two Birds

Two birds, beautiful of wings, close companions, cling to one common tree: of the two one eats the sweet fruit of that tree; the other eats not but watches his companion. The self is the bird that sits immersed on the common tree; but because he is not lord he is bewildered and has sorrow. But when he sees that other who is the Lord and the beloved, he knows that all is His greatness and his sorrow passes away from him...

I think the idea is great, indeed: a modular phone where you get to pick the features you require, and can upgrade them individually as time passes. The question is, will it be cheaper because you can leave out stuff you don't need, or will they overcharge for it (and the "bloks") because that's considered a gimmick? In the former case, that would be great for consumers, but is it a good business model for phone manufacturers in the long run (which it has to be if they are to support it)? Will the bloks last like the slogan promises, or are they going to be like razorblades?

expect higher prices in the beginning and slow decrease as it becomes more widely accepted, just like with pc components

guarantee periods should be similar too
if the component size is small enough with connections to the blo(c)k being still robust enough, it should be able to match current cellphone dimensions

afaik the only major problem is transition from the current manufacturing process towards this new approach (temporary costs), and to some extent manufacturer/consumer acceptance (solvable with marketing)

I'm not sure this is going anywhere, the target demography is just way too small.

I saw that today, could this concept finally become a reality?
