Coup d'etat in Egypt - military says it has ousted Morsi; crowds celebrate in Cairo

The Egyptian military said Wednesday that it had ousted President Mohammed Morsi and suspended the country’s constitution. Armored cars, tanks and troops deployed in the capital in what advisers to the president described as a coup.

In a scene reminiscent of the earliest days of the Arab Spring, tens of thousands of Egyptians who had demanded the president’s ouster staged a jubilant celebration in Tahrir Square — dancing, cheering and setting off fireworks.

Earlier in the day, the president and the military each swore to fight to the death for control of the country, and a military deadline for Morsi to step aside came and went with no statement from the president.

“We swear to God to sacrifice with our blood for Egypt and its people against any terrorist, extremist or ignoramus,” the military said in a statement. “Long live Egypt and its proud people.”

because he repeatedly abused his position, only cared about his party fellows and failed at economy.

its really funny when i see People happy about Coup d'etat in Egypt by military, he is the president elected by democracy way (1 year ago) and allow military to do as they like is a dangers path.

anyway look at the history of president of Egypt:

    King Fuad II- overthrown
    Muhammad Naguib- forced to resign
    Gamal Abdel Nasser- Poisoned
    Anwar Sadat- Assassinated
    Hosni Mubarak- overthrown
    Mohamed Morsi- overthrown

Good luck for the next president

so you telling me that there was a vote done by people and the result of that vote was executed by military?
never heard of such a thing.

There are supporter of Mohamed Morsi and there are ones who are against him, and letting military decide what good for the people is not democracy in any shape or form.

The Egyptian people have failed, they only proved that they are easy to manipulate, don't understand ANYTHING about democracy.

This is a straight military coup, the international communities should ban Egypt from future activites, block their memeberships, and block their citizens from visiting Egypt.

Because in a strategy game, I can fix a building while being attacked by my own workers? Either silence the attack or fix, can't do both, do you play strategy games, Instab? sometimes they are useful.

There is no future anymore for this country, enjoy your coup while it lasts, soon enough you'll fall a hard one and get decieved yet another time.

RIP Egypt forever, It's sad I never had the chance to visit you while you had some sort of life in you.

I don't understand how some people defend for Morsi after one year of failure !! he didn't do ANYTHING at all !! and we have to respect who doesn't respect us at all also ?!!

He didn't add anything new to Egypt economy for example, contrary Egyptian economy become so weak after one year of failure that's because people elect him just because of the "Islamic project" (total fabrication and lies)
he doesn't has ANY experience to be qualified to this position at all .

I don't defend Morsi, I defend democracy, he was elected to be the president, you can (and should) protest when he has completed his presidential years and refused to leave.

You simply refuse to acknowledge the 51% Egyptians, this is pure anti-democracy.

How can add something, if you, the people are always at unrest, always rioting?

The lost 49% showed their true colors and opposition clearly now, they didn't coopearte with him, and now a remnant of Mubark is a temporary President, congratulations!.

to be expected but they don't change that morsi's actions were not democratic.

i would of course be happy for all people there if they got a government that honors democracy and cares about all groups of citizens
