2nd TAP virtual ethernet adapter on windows 8

For launching an openvpn over an other openvpn, my system need 2 TAP virtual ethernet adapters.

The first TAP comes with openvpn install.
For the second, with XP, it's quite simple: Start-> Programs -> Openvpn -> utilities -> "Add a new TAP virtual ethernet adapter." It's ok.

But how adding a 2nd TAP virtual ethernet adapter on windows 8, where the start menu is gone ??

Look for addtap.bat in %programfiles%\TAP-Windows\bin. Or you can use Ex7forW8 to bring the Start menu back

For Ex7forW8, I must have the "same" version of windows 7 and 8. I have a windows 7 pro, my friend has a basic version of W8. So I must "find" a basic version of W7.

But your word "look for addtap" gave me an alternative idea: In Openvpn/bin, there are an addtap.bat file, and a tapinstall.exe.

I have double clicked on the addtap.bat file, and a third TAP appeared. Problem: The task manager (tab network) says this tap is "nonfunctionnal". Maybe should I have used the tapinstall.exe instead ?

It's nonfunctional because you're not connected yet. Run your double VPN setup and it should work.

tapinstall won't do anything by itself, you must pass it the corresponding parameters, which is what addtap does.

On my system (XP) I'm already on double VPN , and 2 TAPs are in use. For testing the third TAP, I should use triple VPN, something I'm unable to do (with openvpn) for the moment.

This third TAP is useless on my system. I have just created it in order to test the method Now, I would like to get rid of it, but in right clicking on its icon, the option "remove" is greyed..

Is this in the device manager?

I'm sure tapinstall can also be used to remove individual adapters (as opposed to all of them), but I've never done that.
