Robert Downey knows how to play the rich egomaniac smart alec showoff to a T. There's a certain charm about him. And the audience loves him for it.

well, it was pretty lame and unconvincing, they should have called it: iron man 3: when superheros need pre-teen kids to save their behinds

iron man was ridiculously incompetent, keeping-up with the current trend of weak/confused/helpless/issue-ridden/unlikeable superheros, deconstructing their original idealistic image, reducing them to mere psychologically unstable humans unfit to act as any kind of role-models (to the younger audience)

so was i. the plot is so standardised and cheap that the only nice thing is the gfx. sadly it seems gfx-heavy movies can't also have a not too poor story these days.
i can only recommend this one if you wanna have a humble 2 hour diversion after work

yeah, well, they could if someone bothered to get the job done properly, its not like there's a shortage of good material/writers/directors/... or some budget constraints regarding such movies
on one hand the industry generally does only as much as they need to in order to be profitable and meet their goals (ie. the bare minimum), so its desirable that they set this minimum as low as possible (least amount of effort needed), so in other words, this overall degradation of quality is intentional - on the other, as long as the viewers/consumers financially support such developments (by spending equally or more on entertainment than before) without creating a significant backlash to force major improvements, the situation will not improve but rather become progressively worse as time goes by (the industry wanting to see how far they can go with this)

(most likely) won't happen, star trek tv shows have already reached their peak, only way to go now is downwards - considering the above mentioned tendencies, the only question left may be: how low (are they gonna go)
