Here are some I researched after the Thunderbird fiasco.

Claws is a fork of Sylpheed and the one I'd recommend trying first.

Anyone remembers Incredimail, The Bat and Outlook Express? There's a compatibility patch for OE, although I wouldn't recommend using it for anything other than reading and exporting archived messages.

The Bat never heard, Outlook Express I used a lot in Windows XP times as well as Incredimail, I remember it had a feature to fool spammers by returning the e-mail with a fake mail delivery subsystem fail error or something like that.
