sad to see how the bond series evolved.
they used to be top of the line in every aspect:

    • an excellent and perfectly matching title song performed by either one of the music hot shots at that time or by a legend. also a possible charts candidate (tom jones, paul mccartney, a-ha, duran duran, tina turner, madonna)
    • a stunning bond girl who was either on the very top of the show biz at the time or at least of extraordinary class, style and appearance (ursula andress, hale berry, denise richards, kim basinger, grace jones)
    • and last but not least of course 007 himself. splendid looks, perfect charme, intelligent, diplomatic ... you name it (connery, moore, brosnan)

a bond movie used to be an event overshadowing everything else but unfortunately all that is gone since brosnan left for whatever reason. i really hope that some day things will change again.

    @Instab:

an excellent and perfectly matching title song performed by either one of the music hot shots at that time or by a legend
the songs were decent, sometimes above average, but mostly nothing spectacular, it could be said that they actually represented lesser songs from the aforementioned (famous) artists

All James Bond Movie Theme Songs

a stunning bond girl who was either on the very top of the show biz at the time or at least of extraordinary class
rule no.1: good/great looking, the rest was optional and varied from one release to another

007 himself. splendid looks, perfect charme, intelligent, diplomatic ... you name it (connery, moore, brosnan)
craig proved he can handle it (and them)

a bond movie used to be an event overshadowing everything else but unfortunately all that is gone since brosnan left
its still an event just like any other brand-name blockbuster, though it faces several problems, such as: a heavy burden of previous bond movies (expectation, saturation), lack of decent scripts/scriptwriters, inspired directors,... that has been plaguing hollywood for some time now, with no sign of any significant recuperation in the near future

craig is certainly a very competent bond, probably the most dynamic & modern one (brosnan coming 2nd in this regard, others were old-school) - casino royale was a top-notch bond movie, quantum's action got destroyed, among others, by quick editing, skyfall will probably be difficult to elevate above the current overall mediocrity - this may in fact kill the franchise (or more correctly: cause a longer pause regarding the next sequel) - as for the future, there doesn't seem to be an actor that would be competent enough to take over the bond role after craig is done with it, especially not among the current younger generation of actors, which seems to have a tough time reaching the levels of their predecessors (and the movie-makers sure aren't helping with that)

Brosnan was the worst bond of all time. The Brosnan ones helped bond go to shit. It only got better once he left. The newer ones are far better imho.

I agree. New Bond movies are far more interesting than those with Brosnan!

well, maybe calling it 'a disaster' would be too harsh but it was very incompetent and bond-unworthy, yet another attempt at dragging the original idea through the mud, perverting the bond character (a similar thing happened with the 'dark knight' version of batman) under the guise of making it supposedly more realistic

anyone notice the absence of elaborate/impressive action scenes, nothing really stands out here other than some (rather generic) cgi work, so for a $200,000,000 budget i'm thinking: fraudulent misrepresentation of costs, which seems to be happening to other big-budget movies that mysteriously fail to 'look the part'

also, bond movies used to be fun to watch, this one just reeked of depression (another current trend)

and the attitude towards women? the term 'despised' is taken to a whole new level (expect more of this in the future)

other than that there's plot holes galore, loads of poor solutions, lame freudian psychology and so on,... come to think about it, maybe it really is a disaster afterall
