Just moved to Germany, questions about torrent download and privacy&security

    Hi,

    I've just moved to Germany,
and all of my friends here (who are not computer specialists) told me NOT to download anything from the torrent sites, because there are very strict laws, and that ISP's are tracking everything, so eventually Police can knock on my door, and that I could end up in court and pay a lot of money.

I've read a couple of articles and they seem to confirm what the friends are saying...

So what to do and how to use & download things without any fear? Advices welcomed :)

    Thanks in advance :)

Just stick to strictly private trackers use IPfilter and maybe NoUp mode and u should be on the safe side..oh and the ISPs arent tracking everything per se, they just can give info to the antip2p organisations who used an IP at the time of the "copyright infrigment".

"Private" sites like TL and PT are also affected by the copyright mafia. You should prefer the smaller ones for current download, and keep the biggest trackers for old files where you're unlikely to get caught (a CAM of a movie that appeared on cinemas yesterday isn't safe, a DVDRip of another movie pre'd in 2005 most probably is, as no one cares anymore).

If you're downloading music, avoid SCC as well.

Damn these ©mafia have also emerging to Private Trackers now, very little can we do. No alternatives left but to switch to Mar3z sites and use File-Host ;(

Well I'm not giving up on SCC, yet. We'll see if my IPFilters+NoUp+ghostleeching will help not getting a greeting card :) + there are so many forums with music links...

As I mentioned on another thread, I'm surprised What.cd is many times bigger than SCC but no one ever said anything about getting letters there.
