Windows 8 – The Developer Preview

Today Microsoft is giving away a free developer preview of Windows 8 to everybody!

You probably want to try out the preview release—and you can. Starting later tonight you can download the Windows 8 Developer Preview. This includes a 64-bit (x64) build with development tools to build apps, and a 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) build without development tools.

Say what you want tis is the new Vista.Tried it last night after 10 mins of the official release of the developer preview.
Horrible.I now have a gigantic windows phone 7 on my pc.

have microsoft just lost its mind.. i will still try it out to see myself.. i tried some leaked builds of windows 8 and they seemed to b fine like windows 7 with few bugs though

Windows 8 is even more lightweight than 7.

I only found it lightweight when it comes to CPU Usage,RAM consumption is basically the same for me.

did u tried out the previous 3 leaked builds? they seemed fine to me..

fine means here less cpu usage ,less ram usage n light with extra features .. though they were hidden .. i used ipill activator to unlock those features.. i used the first 2 leaked builds.. 3rd was a server edition i guess that's y did'nt even botherred to even download that

Did you try running any games.I get slower performances with AssaultCube and Sauerbraten.

This past few days I ran the x86 DP on a production machine and I've got to say I'm impressed by some things and annoyed by others. The thing you should remember is that this is a Developer Preview, not an actual alpha or beta or what have you. That's why they shove Metro up your throat. I kinda dig the new task manager and the metro experience isn't bad. But I hate that fricking ribbon in explorer. Resource and stability wise it's been performing OK, though there is no fast boot, yet, like M$ was claiming or maybe they're just talking only booting from SSD or something. And the worst part is that I've seen some apps crash which I don't find pleasant especially when there is no architecture change afaik. In the end, it might not be such a bad thing but with Win7 Pro having been supported until 2020 I really don't need to worry about the new OS being that great/bad.

I think i'm gonna try it until Beta version next year. DP is really not so good for testing, now that i've seen some testing results about its unstableness.

microsoft should be signing off on the beta within a week.
