Thread: Freakin yahoo mail

    Freakin yahoo mail

Until like two days ago I was a happy yahoo mail user...
    [FONT="Impact"]
Till they forced me to use the new stupid layout.

I've looked through all the options, help and even the yahoo button in the upper right corner.Nothing.
Is there any way to revert back to the classic version ?
And if not can you please suggest a similar service (except gmail, fastmail, hotmail) that you are currently using ?

How about "Y!Mail Beta Unbranding"which supposedly tweaks the Beta mail. I don't know as I've never tried it.

There's another userscript, that is also found on userscripts.org that supposedly:

The newer Yahoo mail beta (neo) really is a faster UI. However, The large header with room that is unused is a let down. This one time, it appears that, Yahoo did not take into account the importance of real estate on top of the page, hitting User Experience. Reduce Yahoo mail neo header space for more room by installing SarathOnline's "Spacier Yahoo Neo"
    Link for above quote

    Userscript.org link:

As I've said, I haven't really tried any of these along with others found on userscripts.org.

Is this more or less what you've been looking for with respect to eliminating from YMail??

I've searched a little and it seems ymail classic is no longer available...
I don't see the reason behind removing the old interface.
Guess I'll start searching for an alternative.

I think they'll let you use the classic UI if you have JavaScript disabled.

Very interesting the lavabit account link. As with most email accounts, when you have a look at the privacy conditions, you see this:

As a necessity Lavabit is required to store private information. In the interest of openness we would like to detail exactly what private information is collected, how that information is used and who has access to that information.
I really don't like my invasion of privacy by second or third parties. As far as I'm concerned what I email and receive is none of their business.

To provide better service, Lavabit records basic statistical information about its accounts. This information includes the last time a particular account was used and aggregate numbers on how many messages have been sent or received by a particular account. These records allow us to purge inactive accounts
I guess be sure that you use the account. Makes sense too, I feel. If you don't use something then obviously there isn't a need for the user to have it any onger, yes??

They haven't forced me yet but don't know why. As you can see, i still have the classic UI

I tried with javascript on and off and I still get the classic view.

    Maybe because of your Browser/IP Range/ ...
Google works like that at least.

Yahoo mail really sucks. Too bad I had it for a long time, so too many people know it, and I can't just stop using it!

I just don't get you people. I've seen a lot of you who prefer the classic layout. But the new layout is snappy and responsive. I've been using it since the developer previews and it works quite well.
I know the last layout was trouble for the Chrome users. Google's browser was having a bad day with it. But the layout is quite OK.
Anyway, gmail off the table? why? have you seen the new layout?
How about Phoenix Mail? It's quite nice and responsive, and one can consolidate different mail accounts into it, like gmail and ymail.

P.S. If something sucks so bad please provide some explanation so anybody reading this can provide alternatives that cope with your expectations and don't go guessing.

I prefer the HTML view on GMail, too. I just don't like AJAX. It's a personal thing without a logical reason.

I respect that. Try using a desktop email client connected to your favorite network. I know quite a few people that don't like the online interface and use this approach to avoid it. Thunderbird is a great place to start but others might better suit your needs.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I practically don't use e-mail nowadays. Some years back I used Outlook Express, but now most people I need to talk to are a PM away

I get that too, but as I've become more and more accustomed to the formalities of business, employers and universities, I've come to appreciate email once again as the de facto standard for sending official information over the web.

P.S. I've always found Outlook to bulky for me. Don't know why, cause I've used Thunderbird with a lot more extensions/features attached to it.
