Wink Should SB-I's registration form have an IQ test?

So that we don't get people like iMkNoWn who don't even read the fucking thread, hop to ask their noob questions, act like idiots when we point that out, and then proceed to flame me staff via PM.

    What do you think?

If that doesn't work out, I think ghostfucker is working on a vBulletin Extreme Mod that will give you an electrical shock every time you do something stupid (only compatible with USB mice so far).

The best way to deal with noobies is to show him one or two Snitlev's post & ask him "Decipher this to me" ( @Snitlev .j/k buddy :) )

Anyways, i think we were all noobs at one or the other time in our life. Having an IQ test kinda thing would scare away even serious users who are willing to join. IMO, give 1 or 2 warnings, if he/she continues ban for 1 or 2 weeks.

On a second thought, just like we have automerge post system, wouldn't it be possible to have a system which basically searches for noob strings/literals contained in the noob post & then strikes on the noob/idiots user's face letmegooglethatforyou kind of notification. (http://lmgtfy.com/)

Basically recognize noobish literals/strings , like " Where do i get this or how do i do this" .. if the post contains such stuff, restrict the user from posting it. So that staff don't have to intervene.

You could just have a basic introductory post that includes the basics on how to cheat, and quiz people on that. It could have an index at the bottom to commonly asked questions. That might cut down on the repetition.

But yeah, you'll probably scare off a few.
    Thanks

You forgot to mention: Do you like annoying people?
Anyway bad idea.A lot of us were noobs, especially me, and without asking a lot of questions at first I would never get where I am.
Thank God, no more mobile. So as I was saying, we must teach users how to act and how to use the forum not give them IQ tests... How do you know somebody with a big IQ will not ask stupid questions? Or be just lazy and not want to search for what he is looking?

In case you didn't notice, I was being facetious when I made this thread.

Of course, there have been some interesting and constructive posts, so we may alter the registration process based on the feedback received. Stay tuned

sbi will grow faster if it stays open. if there is so much noobs it might take down the server if they try to pass the IQ test for 1 week lol
    Thanks

    Ahh good old times

That's not a matter of intelligence,it's a matter "y u no respect others" and inability to communicate what you have to say to others without insulting them.
I'm not familiar with the case you offered as example and I had my problems in the past but I think an IQ test isn't a solution.
Plus,we all know most of the new users join only got the mods.
    Thanks

That's right. As a matter of fact, it should be noted with E-X-T-R-E-M-E urgency that n00bs are, under no circumstances ever to be communicated to, until we know for certain that their brains have blown to bits and have ooze coming out their ears.

How to deal with n00bs, you ask?? (other than my previous post above)
My solution delves into the most devilish of means.

I believe that the most anticipated way of the year to deal with n00bs will be to have them running into concrete walls while turning off your own computer (since they can't communicate with you any-longer now) to prevent grammatically incorrect language overloads.
This produces high levels of n00b-frustration.
Closely followed by getting them 'n00b-pi$$ed"...like when Americans elected George Dubya Bush. ....
    Americans were pi$$ed.

Test the following methods to determine if you've encountered a n00b utilizing n00berisms.

    1. For Mexicans ( Hi Blocker),this generally also includes South Americans such as Argentinians, they are known to start with " Hey Gringo!! Nosotros somos n00blamos"

    2. For Americans, closely followed by Canucks, both known to be the worst offenders of n00berisms, one can tell their being a n00b when they disrupt the overall "happy" time of some overseas server. (Like in Luxembourg, for example). Subsequently causing chaos and henceforth getting 'kicked' or banned by hard-core Europeans.

I should quickly add that only a few such Americans and Canucks actually hold non-n00beristic traits.

    3. The French ( Mon Dieu!! Especially the French)and other Europeans, this includes Romanians of course, are known to be most bothersome. It's probably because they just learning how to speak. For them to think that they're texting/ posting/ talking like a normal person is actually to hear them talk like they're talking underwater.

    Just remember.
To get even with n00bs, one needs to look at strategy and consequence.
Don't pwn your nemesis (read n00b) too soon. You'll want time to gloat before taking action.

We once were invite-only. Why not to be again, like What.cd with an IRC-Interview?

Only if you'd be an interviewer.

no, such a test is superfluous (its negative aspects far outweigh the positive ones)

roughly, there are 2 types of n00bs, the 'genuine' ones (due to their lack of experience/knowledge,...) and the 'intentional' ones (lack of respect, good manners, subversive goals, personality,...) - the former are a larger group which can be 'reduced'/influenced through education & time (not in terms of the group size in general, but regarding those users that are continuously participating in forum activities - through time they will become better users, but new ones will keep on arriving, so the process cannot be avoided, merely more or less successfully addressed, provided that the registration is open and that the forum conditions are suitable), the latter is mostly out of reach since such users have no intention of working with the forum, since their goals or 'ways' significantly deviate from what is expected or what could be tolerated

thus, the primary objective would logically be to address the former group, to focus on their education in order to speed-up/support the process of 'becoming' a better user - in this sense, the following are good measures:

basics of expected behavior (maybe with some practical examples, the 'dos and don'ts')
basics of forum goals (regarding its primary purpose and how this reflects on the users, how does it 'see'/view the role of a user)
basics of benefits for the user
basics of how to use the forum ('all settings explained'), basics of its features, sections, links to threads/posts that act as summaries/'maps'/'link-pools' covering a wider segment of the forum (including a brief description of their purpose)
basics of avoiding those activities that are already known as most problematic or commonly repeating problems (the 'search' problem, wrong section posting, spam posts, missing source quotes, the 'don'ts',...)

essentially, making it more user friendly, or in this particular case n00b friendly, ie. choosing a more positive/attractive approach (education, help, explanation,...), reducing the 'negative'/aversive elements (requirements, obstacles,...) to a bare necessary minimum

iq-test, irc-interview, qiuz and the like all assume that they are sufficiently able to filter-out unwanted users based on simple technical questions (which anyone with a sufficient determination can more or less easily overcome) - the key, however, is not in memorizing mere technical data or imposing additional requirements, but in understanding their meaning/purpose and in individual goals/interests/attitude/psyche - obviously, no test can even dream of being able to address such key elements, rendering it in effect quite pointless

fi. a good sb-i user doesn't need to know anything about cheating, a good private music/movies torrent site user doesn't need to know anything about encoding (not even about torrenting) - such a user may be a n00b regarding these technical aspects, but the knowledge regarding these aspects is certainly not relevant to assess whether he will be a good user or not (merely to assess his current state of technical knowledge), it has little to say on what kind of a person this user is or what his goals are

finally, its not about filtering-out n00bs, its about supporting/encouraging/keeping/'growing' good users, regardless of their current state of technical knowledge
    Thanks

I think we should have something atleast, we should have an IQ test but it should be little easy and hardly 3-4 questions should be asked to person registering I think!
Show respect to all people, but grovel to none

    Thanks
