could be decent, though one might wonder how come so many people/victims like to 'hang out' on railroad crossings or how they carelessly drive across without checking the sides first (seems the local schools teach those kind of things) or how the movie 'heroes' like to sacrifice themselves despite having a family or how the railway companies have no solution to externally slow down malfunctioning trains (must be the cost )

notice also how the train ('when behaving badly') is viewed as having a female gender: she, the bitch - no political correctness there, eh?

anyways, for some great action involving train hijacking watch Under Siege 2 (1995) and if you liked that one check out also Under Siege 1 (1992) involving battleship hijacking

Heh, Tony Scott and Danzel Washington always turn up a good mix....allthough my favourite is Man on Fire, this movie was non stop action all the way...and not the "unrealistic - trigger happy " type of action but the "hold on to the edge of your seat" one. Of course, the actual event that this movie is based on is far more "un eventfull" but as fiction goes, they went in the right direction and didn't over-exagerate what follows. Another thing : great soundtrack by Harry Gregson Williams, keep an ear open for it

It's based on real events. This means it could range anywhere from pretty factual to loosely related, of course. It's the same with every movie.

As for me, I've seen the ads for this movie in TV the last days, and must say that while the plot is obviously nothing extremely deep, it looks like it will have lots of action. Which I like.

don't get me wrong Anon, it's a very enjoyable movie with lots of action and a pretty interesting plot. From what i've read the actual event did started exactly like in the movie, but the conclusion was way different (of course) ...no dangerous cargo, no soldiers, no helicopters, no extreme engine to engine action ...if i'm not mistaken the train stopped itself before they even realised it was loose.

Didn't. Just thought I'd comment on that. And if it has lots of action, then once again I'm game.

Heh, if you're an action buff i personally recommend you watch "Taken" (not Takers) with Liam Neeson....that's one of the best action movies i've seen last year (especially the extended cut) and allthough it has a slow start (let's say 20 mins) when the action kicks in, it never stops....also Neeson kick serious ass in this one.

    Highly recommended

That's the one well, it was made by the same guy that made The Transporter that's why it brought back memories

Another favourite of mine is Elite Squad (2007) and it's sequel (2010) ...the title might lead you to belive it's and B movie chuck norris style, but it's actually a very smart and intricate movie about corrupt cops

Taken? The one from the CIA or whatever agent whose daughter gets kidnapped in Europe? If so, I watched that one last year... lots of action and fighting indeed. Reminded me of the Transporter series.

the only thing unstoppable about this movie is the nonsense emerging every few minutes, from the ridiculous way the train started its rampage, to the incompetence of everyone except ole denzel & his arrogant/spoiled (though ofc good-hearted) younger colleague, where the only goal was to make the train larger than life, a monster threatening to cause all kinds of disasters with conveniently placed problems/obstacles in its way - the result is a stretched wannabe action movie, trying too hard to be exciting, certainly far below other (earlier) movies having denzel washington in a lead role

    his better movies would include:

    Deja Vu (2006)
Man on Fire (2004) first part of the movie
    Training Day (2001)
    The Bone Collector (1999)
    Fallen (1998)
    Courage Under Fire (1996) decent
    Crimson Tide (1995)
    Philadelphia (1993)
    The Pelican Brief (1993)

more realism, reality-checks, keeping things in perspective and such will reveal more (give better insight) than sticking to either prevalently optimistic or pessimistic viewpoints
