Nvidia 3D Vision Surround: Is This The Future Of Gaming?

A little more than a year ago, we saw a renewed interest in stereoscopic gaming with Nvidia's 3D Vision technology. Today, the company is following up with 3D gaming across three displays. But has the 3D ecosystem improved since our last look at the tech?

I’ve been doing this (and by this, I mean writing about technology) for almost 12 years now. When I started, having FedEx drop off a sound card sample to my dorm at UCLA was a big enough deal to make my week. Remember the Rage Fury MAXX? I couldn’t sleep for two days when that showed up in the mail (the review went up on SharkyExtreme back in ’99).

The passing of time makes the latest and greatest seem more commonplace, though. It’s not a bad thing—I still love technology. It’s just harder to get my blood pumping—though that might just be from a decade of Red Bull and Rockstar screwing up my metabolism.

Looks cool! The problem is, that all the 3D devices so far are not made for daily use, in fact some people can't use them for more than 10 minutes. What happens is that the way this things work is by sending different images to each eye, which may cause headaches, nausea, vomits and estrabism among other depth perception eye weaknesses.
Sega researched this technologies in the 90s and came to this conclusion.
My concern is that not everyone knows that or simply thinks it is overreacting, meanwhile 3D equipment is being sold....with a warning label so as to say "told you so, you can not sue us"

another technology pipe dream for some years to come, making promises they cannot keep, selling products way above their actual value, not having a clue (not giving a damn either) about health consequences, as long as the potential customers get all warm & addicted (to the hype)

they will do just about anything to get their shiny gadgets/toys/trinkets imprinted onto customer mental wishlists as objects of worship & longing over and over again for years (to come), using knowledge about human psychology to steer/create/inflate customer wishes

3d makes an interesting addition to any entertainment system but the price tag huge for a nice setup

So, let’s proceed under the assumption that you’re ready to drop $2,500-ish on video cards, monitors, and glasses, and that you’re already rocking a PC able to propel this configuration forward at full speed. Or, I’ll just assume you like reading about the technology that might very well affect your next hardware purchase—it’s just that cool.
Im still waiting for 3d projection

Am I the only one to think 3D is overrated?

lol for example in a xxx movie or in action movie.

3d is atm a little bit overrated, but in future it will be a new standard. this people who dont like 3d will have the choice to avoid this effects.

i believe that 3d will be on most tvs and computers in a few years.

    kind regards

There are some serious health risks about 3d that won't let go all the way to a home standard. I believe that the future is in high res, high luminance holography (which IS being developed, with some prototypes in existence) and maybe direct video streaming to the brain (like the cochlear implant but for video), which I read about a bunch of times, but that is in a distant (non-apocalyptic) future

Direct video streaming to the brain . Better to avoid that, because we will taking secret data eventually in our own brain like Johnny Mnemonic
