utorrent downloads files which are "skip" Hi,

my utorrent downloads files which are set a skip. the problem is, it doenloads only 1% of the whole file but for example if that file is 10gb, then there is a file which is 10gb big on my harddisk (but only 1% of it is rly loaded).

what can i do about that? :)

    thx

    Yay, so many threads!

Right-click the 10GB file and check what the actual "size on disk" may be. Windows may say ten gigabytes when the file is actually 8KB long.

that happens for me too. But usually it downloads just a few kb. I don't think that can be stopped from happening.

Disable the Preallocate Space feature in uT.

There's an option somewhere in the Advanced settings to use a partfile. Make sure it's set to true.

my utorrent downloads files which are set a skip.
that happens sometimes if those skipped files are allocated within a torrent part that also contains non-skipped files, but they shouldn't be viewable on your hard drive since you skipped them (afaik they are downloaded in the accompanying .dat file)

the problem is, it doenloads only 1% of the whole file but for example if that file is 10gb, then there is a file which is 10gb big on my harddisk (but only 1% of it is rly loaded).
yes, but its a single file and after a while you start getting torrent parts from all across that file which is why it grows fast even if many parts in between haven't been downloaded

what can i do about that?
unless there is an option to download torrent parts sequentially from the beginning of the file i don't think you can do much

if the file is available as a scene release you could choose to download just a few rar's to get your wanted ~1%

hopefully you aren't using some outdated windows version that can't handle large (few GB) file sizes

lastly, it can always be another bug/glitch in the operating system, utorrent, other running programs and whatnot

well it sucks for example a moviepack:

    10 movies with each 20gb

now i choose one movie to download and uncheck all the other and click start.
it downloads the one movie at 100% and 3 other movies at 1% or even less.. but as soon as it downloads just one byte of the movie i already have the .mkv created on my harddisk which is 20gb big.

Try it with a clean uTorrent install. It'll help you know if there's something wrong with your uT settings (which is probably the case, but...).

also utorrent if used with high priority on torrent files usually leaves them on 99% and many other unpleasant things =\

Wouldn't that result in the same thing as putting all torrents to medium or low? Waste of trouble it seems
