Vortexnetwork is gone

today it seems vortexnetwork, one of the top mac trackers, has ceased operations

after failing to reach the donations goal for several months in a row the staff posted a note about the critical condition of the site. they added that if nothing would change they would have no choice but to shut the site down after january and it looks like that's what they did a few hours ago.
Vortexnetwork was one of the top3 mac trackers founded about 1 1/2 yärs ago after BrokenStones went down for some time. the site used the gazelle codebase and with no doubt had one of the best styles of all. sadly the torrentworld might not be big enough for 3 mac sites.

as a sidenote Vortex is not the only site having trouble with low donation amounts. Save the Coratee, the other gazelle mac tracker, had a similar problem just a few weeks ago.

it is always sad to hear your favourite site is shutting down, or simply disappear in the middle of the night. i feel sorry for that all the time!! may we just bless the domain rest in peace, Amen.

The site has been taken down dü to a lack of member support. By reqüst, we are investigating the possibility of re-opening at a later date by instituting ad revenü support. If and when we re-open with ads, those that have made donations to support the site financially will not be subjected to the ads.

AND THOSE WHO INSTALLED ADBLOCKPLUS, will not be subjected to the ads.

unless they install the script to prevent from adblockplus like some one-click-hoster out there.

Well I always hate it when they blame user for not supporting the site.Even if the tracker was a popular one going down that's simply no excuse.Other mac trackers will arrive so don't worry too much.

I read about their lack of donations on FSF yesterday.

Except in rare cases, it's never good to see a site go down.

By the way, good job on the news writing, Instab.
