Al Jazeera English: VIDEO: Yemen: A failed state?

There is little going right for the Yemeni government right now. The country hit the spotlight after it was alleged that the Nigerian 'underwear bomber,' who attempted to blow up an American airliner on Christmas day, was trained by an al-Qaeda group there.
Other than these concerns, Yemen also has a very high unemployment rate. According to the video, nearly 40 % as well as depleting water supplies.

Worried Western governments have begun shutting their embassies, fearing increased violence. But the US and Britain have also promised military aid for the Yemeni government.
of course there'll be military aid. That's what they do best in regions of which they have a vested interest in.

If you watch the video, you'll hear comments about Al Queda and how it's perpetuated within the discussion.
Other things that I thought were of interest in the video is involvement of the international community, most especially the regional community.
They mention an absent of involvement of the Arab states in the Yemeni concerns.

So think about why the Arab community is not involved inside Yemen. That is, in helping to overcome that country's internal problems. Why does the US and other notable European states become involved instead??The Arab states would obviously have a much greater and vested interest in Yemen. To not only help stablize Yemen, but also for kinship reasons as well. Though, that's probably a lesser reason to support Yemen, IMO.

Instead, the US becomes involved in attempting stabilization via military means. Of course, the video also makes mention of helping Yemen via humanitarian and other means. But that's usually at the bottom of the list.

What's more important is the military aspect.
There's also the reason of Israel of course. Israel is only on the other side of the region if you look on a map.

what with the demands of Israel and the US have for Israel's dominance in that region,.....is it any wonder that the Arab states are desired to stay out of helping Yemen??

If the US, UK and other European states, including even the UN, have a strong influence inside Yemen, what concerns would there be for Israel being virtually right next door in the middle east??

The notion that Israel, US, and Arab states are in collusion over events in the Middle East isn't something that 's new, IMHO.

which was just another fabricated incident to justify the next invasion/military action in that region

its interesting how scarce the on-site reports from actual yemeni people are, have you seen any at all? they should have a better information than the foreign mainstream media or the usa PR machinery - come to think about it, the same goes for afghanistan & iraq, no genuine reports, just some extra-regional analysts, like in this video: the female guest gives obvious choices (either we push them into greater poverty or we actively support them - what to choose....i wonder) and the male one doesn't know what will happen if the situation continues (his replies are vague as expected)

essentially rarely anyone gave yemen or their bad economy a thought in the past, but only now as the ever-resourceful nonexistent group of caveman super-elusive & modernized self-trained terrorist fighters somehow teleport themselves & resurface in yemen (its a safe bet no one ever heard about these cavemen in yemen before 9/11), being able to raise their level of importance/threat in yemen in a very short time which by far surpasses any similar long time attempts from local renegade tribe leaders...and now everybody is concerned about this country, posing as good-will-hunting-for-another-profiteering-source-if-not-worse

finally, the usa has no business interfering in yemen or anywhere else for that matter, they should stay at home (usa) where they belong - the sooner their citizens realize that and explicitly demand it from the government, the better

    I could not agree more.
That wouuld be one of the more intelligent things to do for that country's government.

Now watch what's gonna happen..... All of a sudden, every political eye on the planet is going to be watching Yemen.

Like you say slik, not many people were concerned about the Yemeni economy. Now all of a sudden everyone say's: " let's find a way to help the Yemeni economy so we can fight the made-for-invention-terrorists, better"

And if that won't help the Yemeni people, watch out b/c here comes the good-ol' US of A riding high in their saddles with Custer come from the grave just, like they always do, yes??
