in case we're talking about some kind of dsl you can't connect to the modem cause there's nothing to connect to. the modem dös only pass traffic through.

I see, but I'm on cable, not DSL. Anyways...there are like 3 routers, btw. It's kinda complicated to explain.

okay, then we have to check your net env.
look at the cables and how the routers are connected. in line or everyone with everyone?

Well, there are 2 Linksys routers and 1 Airlink router on top. The Airlink one seems to be one that does all the work. They're all connected to each other and I can't use just one as some stuff that a guy came to fix for us won't work anymore (I hope this answers your question).

sounds quite improvised and that makes it very hard to help from outside ...

first i'd suggest to connect via cable. no wireless stuff.
then try to connect to all 3. web interface or telnet or whatever. i hope you know their ips :tongü:

Ah, well...this computer is upstairs and the router is downstairs. So...I would have to do all of that on the other computer, but there's someone using it atm. I'm on a 256k connection and get about 25-28 kB/s speeds. Would it make much difference if I do port forward? I also don't download the new things that are uploaded right away, mostly older stuff.

I mean I do download new things, but it takes a while before I actually start downloading as I have other torrents downloading before I add that one, so maybe that's why it's hard for me to keep a good ratio?

Normally it's better to be connectable but if you can't, that's OK... you can still download.

depends on your needs. without port forwarding you will never be connectable. means: you'll only be able to upload to peers you're downloading from hence you can't seed at all and therefore cheating becomes quite hard ...

You can still seed if you connect to leechers after you're 100% done...

Will there be any improvement to my downloads though? Since it's hard for me to seed, I guess that's why I tend to over cheat.

Well, you can't connect to other unconnectable peers, which may slow you down. But in most cases you can get full speeds without problems.

Maybe you already done and are port forwarded. Have you done these tests with some torrents active? If not, start some torrents and wait some minutes then test again.

    insert your port of course
