    List of public DNS servers

    Hi,

until some days ago, OpenDNS's and Google's were the only ones I knew. Other users have posted more on the Google thread and so I thought it'd be good to centralize this kind of information on a dedicated one. Here it goes:

    OpenDNS
    • 208.67.222.222
    • 208.67.220.220

    DNS Advantage
    • 156.154.70.1
    • 156.154.71.1

    Comodo Secure DNS
    • 156.154.70.22
    • 156.154.71.22

    Note the similar IP range.

    Google Public DNS
    • 8.8.8.8
    • 8.8.4.4

    Level(3) Communications
    • 4.2.2.1
    • 4.2.2.2
    • 4.2.2.3
    • 4.2.2.4
    • 4.2.2.5
    • 4.2.2.6

Found them via Google, they aren't listed on L(3)'s Web site.

    ScrubIT
    • 67.138.54.100
    • 207.225.209.66
    • 67.138.54.120
    • 207.225.209.77

This one's family-friendly and thus will block porn, malware, etc., sites.

    DNSResolvers
    • 205.210.42.205
    • 64.68.200.200

If you know more, please post them.

I use the Level3 DNS servers(4.2.2.1/4.2.2.2). No performance loss, better uptime than my ISP's given DNS servers, overall I'm preferring using the Level3 ones. Thanks for showing me these.

I've been using the google ones since they set them up without issues, and formerly I was using OpenDNS without issues, my ISP's are still terrible though.

    DynDNS

    216.146.35.35
    216.146.36.36

If you create an account, you can set your own network preference (what type of sites to block, what site would always be blocked/allowed, etc).

I use Comodo DNS servers. It's the only ones I can use except my ISP own DNS servers.
My ISP isn't allowing my to change them manually. Comodo's work since they are integrated in CIS.
After I changed the annoyance of parked and bad domains vanished.

Interesting, what happens if you change them? You lose network connectivity or it's the same as if you were using your ISP's? In the latter case, they may be putting you behind a transparent caching proxy...

Or only allow UDP traffic to port 53 for their own servers

assuming there wouldn't be a single one with a different port somewhere and some dns servers also support tcp

But it should be enough to kill traffic to most servers.
