    Paint.NET 3.5 Final

    Paint.NET v3.5

    Whats new:
    * Performance in many areas has been substantially improved, and overall memory usage has also been greatly reduced (especially when more than 1 image is open).
    * The user interface has been refreshed with new icons, and visual styling has been enhanced for Aero Glass (Windows 7 / Vista only).
    * Upgraded to use the latest .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, which has many built-in performance improvements.
    * New effect: Blurs -> Surface Blur, by Ed Harvey
    * New effect: Distort -> Dents, by Ed Harvey
    * New effect: Distort -> Crystalize, by Ed Harvey
    * The font manager for the Text Tool has been completely rewritten, resulting in increased performance and better reliability. On Windows 7, the quality of text is much better as a result of using DirectWrite (this also works on Windows Vista if you have installed DirectX 11).
    * The built-in updater now has the ability to download updates in the background, and will wait until you exit Paint.NET to install them. In previous versions, the download happened in the foreground, and you had to wait for the entire process to complete before you could use Paint.NET again..
    * Now includes a Russian translation.

    ya. I have to agree.
    It is better than Paint.
    Waaay better.

More options available in this proggy as well.

With the exception of the updater, speaking for myself only, I usually disable any updaters, as it just takes too long for everything to get going once the OS is booted up.

again, speaking for myself only, I just update when I want to.

    whose grey top shall tremble,
    He descending, will Himself,
in thunder, lightning, and loud trumpet’s sound,
    ordain them laws".

    Oh, oh. Better use LINUX.

It is great, not too complicated, bitmap graphics editing program for Windows. I used to use it, and I have only the best experiences with it. Very optimized program. If it could recognize my scanner (canon lide 35) it would be even better but it still remains one of the best.

To answer to SBfreak: it depends what do you need it for. Paint.net can do really much things (it is nothing comaparable to Windows poor built-in paint), but gimp is maybe with its layer management even a step higher. But that doesn't matter, if you do not use these "advanced" features... Generally I would recommend paint.net on Windows, try it, doesn't cost you anything.
