    Ye, I would love a new genre too - as long as it isn't like the all so popular metalcore or nu-metal band that all the kids like. A breakthrough like thrash metal made from heavy metal or death from thrash would be sooo.....

    Just started listening through Slayer's World painted blood. Haven't really made up my mind yet but they are getting better again after their big downfall during the 90's and after. Geez am I glad they only played 80's songs (all reign in blood) on their consert last year.

    I'll not go into debate now how much I hate kiddies who listen metal music as their expression for hatered towards Christ and christians, I'll just make statement that I listen variety of music and metal for sure was (is) one of its components.
    Heard pretty much of everything, there were periods where I listened heavy metal only but now I like to hear some subgenre which is not mentioned here and it is called folk metal. ^_^

    Korpiklaani, Fintroll, Alkonost, Eluveitie (ven album) to name just one of best that come to my mind now. Highly recommended for any metal music enthusiast

    Ye, well. Folk metal is not a big subgenre, but I must agree that there are some decent bands that surely have potential.

    Without looking into it, but aren't the bands you mention finnish folk metal?

    Awesome, fellow metalheads! \m/

    @nextor
    I'd say folk metal is a pretty big genre, since it includes Viking metal and the like. Lets face it, there are tons of Viking metal bands.

    Either way, Death metal is my favorite genre.

    For anyone who loves metal and lossless music there's
    MetalMadness.TEAM. All the releases are on ed2k though.

    There are a ton of viking metal bands indeed, but saying viking metal = folk metal would be a misstake in my opinion. Indeed it's a fusion genre, but most viking metal bands are more ~ death metal and so on. But then again you might say folk metal ~ black metal...
