here's an idea - make a list of all metalheads active on sb-i (insert user names into the first post)
maybe a few polls, user made album reviews, top/favourite albums, genre preferences,...
depending on activity one thread may not be enough

Hey nice thread SBf. I'm going to check out those links posted by you and slikrapid.

Like hitman, I like many subgenres from Metal roots, but I consider myself more of a classic Heavy Metal and Power Metal fan.

    My favorite metal bands:

Blind Guardian, EdGuy, Stratovarius, Angra, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Helloween, Eden Bridge, Blackmore's Night, Type O Negative, Deathstars.

Some Nu Metal: Slipknot, Linkin Park, Tokio Hotel, Korn, Adema.
Some Hard Rock like Scorpions (love metal?).

ps: some info in my post might be wrong, like the genres of some cited bands, for example Korn, which I've been told is Nu Metal, I can't really be sure, so bear with me.
    it's hip to be square

I won't make a "bands list I listen too" because it will always be outdated.
Most of those already mentioned would be part of my list.
Anyway one of my favorites are Pain

Well, the reason why I can make a "Bands I listen to"-list is due to the fact that there is no more 80's metal being made, and I really can't stand listening to a lot of the new metalish bands out there. Although there are some exceptions...

afaik metal is for some time now in a period of stagnation, all major genres are already formed, bands are either continuing to play variations of their previous styles or jumping into other genres or combining them or adding new non-metal influences - so basically its kind of a rehashing of music, just waiting for someone to get genuine inspiration and create a new genre or in the worse case it may be a situation where there aren't any profound changes left leaving us with little hope for future breakthroughs

sure, there are loads of new bands & albums coming out every day (up to 10 new per day on average) although the changes to the genre in general aren't substantial enough

i mean, its fine to listen to older stuff or find out previously unheard older bands/albums (this may last for 'a lifetime' if you're meticulous enough), but i would really like to see some band opening a new, so far unexplored/non-saturated frontier in metal (and i'm not talking about cross-genres like nu-metal, metalcore or deathcore etc., but about one that would be genuinely metal-originated or full-blooded metal if you like)...waiting...hoping...
