I watched it as soon as the TS came out - which didn't take long due to how hyped it was, IPT even had an Avatar-themed header - and was highly impressed by how much nothing I'd have missed on otherwise. As a meme pointed out at the time, it was basically Pocahontas with blue aliens.

Cameron made a name for himself as director with heavyweights like Alien, Terminator and The Abyss, but this wasn't one of them. The only great things were its visuals and commercial success

You know the story of Alien, right? He had a nightmare dreaming of the creature. That's how the movie came to be.

I thought the whole thing was an allegory of rape, but either way... those monsters are not something I would want to meet.

Didn't he direct the sequel? The first Alien movie was directed by Ridley Scott!

Cameron made a name for himself as director with heavyweights like Alien, Terminator and The Abyss, but this wasn't one of them.
back when cameron made real movies, now hollywood is asking for "selling-commercial" movies
to release now Alien, Terminator and The Abyss for the first time,i think from classics will be categorised like B level or C movies and Cameron a no name

haven't even watched aliens until i was around 16 because it was to scary, like predator

You're right; for some reason I thought Cameron had done the first two. But Aliens was one of few movie sequels managing to outmatch the original, so my point is still valid

I'd watched everything up to Resurrection by the time I started elementary school, nya. The PlayStation game however was very scary, with dark corridors, short draw distance, and everything wanting to kill you.

My mother was a big fan of the Alien franchise. We used to watch it together. It was her favorite movie.

While all movies in the franchise have extended versions, in Alien 4 - Resurrection, the extended version, in the beginning there is transformation depicting a fly which slowly transformed into the creature. Supposedly, they created it from the appearance of common house fly. There was no official reference to this AFAIK when I looked it up. It got so, she couldn't see the creature afterwards, as she would picture the fly . Yes, good times... not so much now.

Either I haven't watched this extended version or don't recall that particular scene, but then again this sums up what I do remember.
    • Ripley's back! (And can play ball)
    • The bouncing headshot
    • Winona Ryder as Call
    • The ending where Alien-chan gets sucked into space

That's good. We have not had a brand new Avatar movie in 13 years so that'll help make up for that hopefully.
