Al Jazeera English: China alert over 'al-Qaeda threat'

It kinda surprises me that China is in the gun-scope of Al Qaeda now.

I guess in a way, that shouldn't be surprising perhaps considering China's reputation for suppression when it suits it's goverment to do so.


Apparantly, the reason for the latest threat to China by Al Qaeda is b /c of some deaths of Muslims in the city of Urumqi.



Here's a sample:

China has warned its citizens in Algeria to be on heightened alert following warnings that al-Qaeda could be plotting attacks on Chinese workers in North Africa in retaliation for the recent crackdown on unrest in China's western Xinjiang region

Well it definitely wasn't unexpected.

I worry that this threat would give an all too easy excuse for China to justify its actions in Urumqi.
