    maybe it should be reversed
    if you have more than 4gb RAM handy or are to buy choose x64 hardware and OS

    x64 should be a lot faster on special demanding applications like Photoshop etc. right?

    not always. it really differs in every single case. in some cases 64bit is even slower.
    anyway for private use it shouldn't matter much

    hehe, there is no straight yes or no. most people do it for the 'coolness' but don't really have a clü what it's about.

    tell me what you normally do with your box and i can give you a more definitive answer

    If you have the money always go x64.

    Remember that harware and software req drivers need x64 versioin drivers. You will usually find it hard to find x64 drivers for old hardware and software.
