    AMD Strikes Back!

AMD pulls in six-core CPU, announces 16-core for 2011

Sunnyvale (CA) – AMD updated its server processor roadmap with several surprises. The new monolithic six-core Opteron version, code-named Istanbul, will be introduced in June. We will also see a new integrated memory controller technology, 12-core processors in 2010 and a 16-core CPU in 2016.

AMD DirectX 11 Graphics Cards in H2 2009

AMD plans to introduce new graphics cards with support for DirectX 11 in the second half of 2009. In fact, speculation points out that the move is planned to happen sooner than latter with the chip maker reportedly looking to have the first DirectX 11-capable graphics cards on the market as soon as July or August. AMD has so far failed to either confirm or deny a scenario in which ATI DirectX 11 graphics cards would precede Windows 7 to the market.
When Softpedia spoke with John Swinimer, Public Relations manager at AMD, at the start of this month, the CPU maker indicated that it was not ready to detail to the public unreleased products.

Man, I read today that they're in really big loss with money. I hope they manage to get out.

Well, Intel is about 32 times bigger than AMD, judging by market
capitalisation, but fuck 'em... I've always been a fan of the underdog...

That's good news, we need some competition on the processor marketing, Intel can't overtake, or we will be forced to pay whatever they want. Here hoping that AMD strikes back and bring us some quality product with a nice price!

Now that they have the X4 BE leading the charge, we should see some gain in momentum of their dominance by the 3rd and 4th quarter of this year. They're definitely closing in fast on the i7. If Intel doesn't buck up quick enough, they may just snatch the lead for the first time in ages, not only in terms of value for money but ultimately surpassing the i7 at it's current pricepoint, In the past, I'd be very skeptical, but at this point I wouldn't put my thumb on it.

I must say though, always been an Intel fanboy, never looked back to AMD since Athlon let me down.

Update: AMD pulls dual-core server processors, cuts prices

Advanced Micro Devices has pulled dual-core server processors from its product lineup, also cutting prices of some Opteron chips by close to 43 percent.

Hope Amd gets it's finger out....
intel core i7 is miles ahead at the moment.

Lets hope that Amd's new processors are miles better than core i7. so that the prices of core i7 and associated motherboards fall.

unfortunately all these PC Marks don't mean much in real working conditions, so the results we want to see are performance in games more than just a few FPS, multithreading properly implemented (with proper software management), other apps benefiting from multi cores, full HD performance with just a few % cpu, in other words another significant leap in performance is needed

for AMD, competition is really necessary for the end user to benefit from it
