Bad news. Truth to be said though, it's hard to donate to a site which is down in two months more than its up time. There are reasons to donate to specific site and remain alive by users. I doubt SCC will go down for the lack of donation though, many loyal members are there loving the site. It also got pretty many old releases and packs. Time will tell.
    Thanks

those topsites are probably sustained by pay2leech users, seems the numbers are dropping

too late, there is a thread with complaints that the server is unable to upload torrents containing packs, the issue hasn't been addressed in at least 2 months

Ahh shite, this is bad news indeed.

IMO Bitcoins is the thing to blame here. Not everyone can donate using this system, it's way too complicated and unstable (BTC varies a lot every hour). Problem is it seems every tracker these days are restricted to this bloody currency, as they fear their balance could be frozen in Paypal, which has happened before. Can't they use Paypal and spend it all at the end of money or transfer the extra to other systems so that in case they are frozen then not much is lost? Or is this extrapolating?

    Comment:

SCC is the next scene source after ScT. Since it's about to die due the lack of donations I decided to take maybe one last look. It used to has unique features like packs which are freeleech all the time but now it's only freeleech for VIPs. The site activity going down and been down for some time. It opened signups at the end of last year which was unexpected but I guess it wasn't that unique after all due the shock of some members after signing up. The staff are some of the worst staff around private trackers. It seems the source code has many modifications to look like this. On the positive side scc still has fast pre times and it is good source for new and many old scene torrents. Cheating there is very easy as long as you cheat on any torrent with leechers. Lately though, cheating done on old and new packs successfully but it is not recommended anyway as you probably already know. Speeds up to 5 MB/S using mR and RM with memory readers work very well specially on popular new releases and popular not so new releases like torrents uploaded about week or two ago.
    Thanks

It seems PayPal is a nightmare for piracy sites no matter what you do. What.cd once had drama with it too and ended up switching to Flattr, that seemed to work well.

Anyway, I just saw a post in their forums where someone promised to donate $15000, we'll see

No! That's exactly the problem. The average user still needs to use his credit card to buy bitcoins and that is the difficult part, it's not available everywhere to most people. There's also no joy between paypal and bitcoins as they are competitors.

Staff posted that many unused accounts were disabled one day ago.

New (in)activity rules have been put into place, A cleanup of 1813 users has been made. Although these users were "Active" their activity level (As per our definition) was considered dead weight. These cuts will periodically occur in order to keep only the active users on site as the userbase gets lowered.

A side note for those who are concerned about their account getting disabled for (in)activity. Our formula is comprised of downloads, uploads participation in forums, last seen & snatched and several other factors. As long as you maintain "Normal" activity level you have nothing to worry about.

    *Announcement*
Inactivity policies are nonsense, and so is the "dead weight" rationale. It's okay to want a more active site, but not everyone has time to fit these requirements. Inactive users (a definition which apparently will now include those who download casually or when they can't find the same thing elsewhere, and couldn't care less about the forums) barely use any resources by definition, what will be gained by disabling them?

(Full disclosure: this forum once did such a cleanup in early '09. I supported it at the time under the same reasons given by SCC staff, but I no longer find them acceptable. We haven't done it again ever since.)

exactly, nothing. nevertheless this measure was and still is popular with a lot of trackers and it never worked as it was supposed to be. yet nobody seems to learn from it.
however i'm not surprised. scc staff are not known for good decisions.

I think that they wanted to make such announcement to scare users and this is the main goal hoping that users will get more active and they disable the ones without hope anyway so it's win win. As said though they will realize they done a mistake. SCC is not good or last resort as it was. Staffers there are shit for long time so it's not surprising doing anything actually
    Thanks

Not even carrying non-scene content, removing ratios and opening signups were able to save them Of course, at that point, the only thing setting them apart from other 0-day trackers was the packs.

Guess there was no $15,000 donation either...
