Is anyone here using Ares still? It was really massive years ago (and this thread, one of my first, stands as a monument to that), but then fake files and spam started taking over. If I were to judge by the amount of search results, I'd say two thirds of its old userbase have abandoned it. Nonetheless, I keep my install configured and working, and use it to find single songs sometimes (haven't found a good Groovedown replacement so far).
Note that versions after 2.3.1.3055 removed the bundled skins, ability to disconnect from the network and the "my PC is firewalled" checkbox, and have a few bugs on top of that (the media player buttons don't initially appear, "pause/unpause all" doesn't actually affect all downloads), so I can't recommend them.

Just dropping by to say Ares is effectively dead. Versions 2.3.1 and below can no longer connect to the original network (all supernodes seem to be nonfunctional), and newer ones are basically a YouTube ripper plus TPB unblocker.
