A workaround for your problem would be to move the mod to another folder and create a blank file called settings.dat. This will create an "encapsulated" install, and no program other than uTorrent should lock the files.

They see uTorrent 1.8.3, of course. But some trackers can detect the Multi mods, for example, via scripts.

Depends on the tracker. It's fine for low-level ones, but Waffles will detect the Multi mod, for example. Use Search!
