I don't know where exactly to draw the line, but I think the decline slowly started around version 2.0, which ironically now shines in comparison to current ones.
By 3.x, things were already going downhill.
I guess it's partly from the "if its not broken, don't fix it" mentality. I honestly haven't even touched any of the newer uTorrent clients, so I have no idea what's particularly bad with them. Just saw that anon saying he is no longer working on it and I was curious as to why. Thanks for the information.
I think the idea behind using uTorrent is the easiness of blending in, since so many people still use it.
In my case, I stuck to it because it's the least worst option. It's not anywhere as good as as it used to be, but I'm not any more convinced by the current alternatives so far.
Depends on where you are. Sometimes rTorrent is the absolutely dominating one =]
some times using older versions of clients can cause security vulnerabilities..
few examples

This vulnerability forced me to upgrade from the "1.7.2 secure mod" I was using. At the time, people had gone apeshit because uTorrent was caught sending traffic to a multicast IP (for legitimate purposes, local peer discovery or UPnP, can't remember which). Now it's full of spyware and no one seems to care
A last update for this pack will arrive really soon!
Hello, first post here so please be comprehensive
There are dozens of tools here but I don't know exactly which one to use for secret-cinema and cinematik tracker. Secret allows any client while cinematik only allows these:
Azureus / Vuze 4.2.x, 2.5.0.4
Bittornado 0.3.18
Bittorrent Mainline PC 6.4 / Linux 5.3 / OSX 4.27.2
btpd 0.15
Deluge 1.2.1
Enhanced CTorrent dnh3.3.x
halite 0.3.2.2
KTorrent 3.3.x
libtorrent 0.12.x, 0.11.x or higher
qBittorrent 2.1.x
rtorrent 0.8.X, 0.7.8.x
Transmission 1.9.x, 1.77, 1.76, 1.54, 0.6.1
µTorrent 2.x, 1.8.x, 1.6.1
So I kindly ask which tools work on Windows without problems and are safe with these trackers. Thank you all!
BiglyBT Extreme Mod, RatioMaster Plus, mRatio and JOAL can emulate any version of anything (as long as a client file is available) and work on all trackers if used correctly.
