Been doing some experiments with Xubuntu myself, too

UbuntuGuide and Ubuntu Linux Resources are two good sites.

Kubuntu= uses KDE (KDE - Be free), is the most resource hungry.
Ubuntu= uses Gnome (GNOME: The Free Software Desktop Project), is the second most resource hungry.
Edubuntu-uses Gnome, same resources as ubuntu- but is aimed towards schools/children.
Xubuntu= uses XFCE (Xfce - Desktop Environment), the least resource hungry.

being a linux noob myself i think KDE or GNome has better graphics
if you have a good pc you may need to try one of the above two..

but afaik kubuntu isn't good in KDE i don't know in which ways..

so if you want KDE i think you need Mandriva (i think),
if you need Gnome you need the standard Ubuntu

also there is something pretty beautiful called openSuse < i'll try it soon..

    the choice is yours

I went for Xubuntu as well, I like the idea of a lightweight desktop, and care more about speed, rather than how nice the UI looks.

cheatos, do you know if there are Ubuntu mods similar to what eXPer1ence did with MicroXP? I saw there are 30MB distros you can use to surf, chat and do work, but I want something that's lightweight while at the same time I can install programs without trouble.

I think that's only to play your own music... you can still use the countless Web-based streaming services

I haven't tried cheating on Linux system

But you can use the Extreme Mod or RM via Wine. There's a guide here.

    now we are 2 . i'm no linux expert/geek,
    in fact i'm a Microsoft Lover/Xbox Lover /Anti-Apple/Anti-PS3/Anti-Linux
but i like to try something new , thats why i'm trying linux distributions now.
i've tried Ubuntu and i've hated it.
now i'll try Mandriva and openSuse

i did some research and found:
    DSL information
Kuki Linux - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
U-lite Linux | Where Speed Meets Ease
Main Page - antiX [the lightweight version of MEPIS]

as for program installation. i've never installed a program in linux without the pain of wget/ tar/ make?/ make install

and i guess an Ubuntu-Based distr is what you're looking for?

    I'll try this.
Running cheating tools under wine seems risky.

I think nothing should happen, but you can never go wrong with the Extreme Mod
