Do you know Btaccel ?

____________________________________________________________________________________

It's not really a "new", but it seems nobody on SBI has spoken about with service before.

Quote:
BTaccel, a browser-based and remotely hosted BitTorrent client, can help to make things far easier. Feed it a link to a torrent and it does all of the P2P wizardry automatically, <b>downloads the file</b> and prepares it for you to grab off their servers <b>via HTTP</b>.
Download torrents from the web. Fast. Easy.

BTAccel – the Web-Based BitTorrent Client

This service is at the moment entirely free (but on invite only).

So, with Btaccel, you can torrent via HTTP.

Witch allow to add many levels of security. For example, if paranoïd, you can download Torrents according the following scheme:

[ [(Your Portable Browser) <-> (your VPN)] <-> (Jondo with Tor feature (*) ) ] <->BtAccel.

The only problem is that Btaccel a priori only work with public torrents.

I were very interested if some smart member knew a mean/trick/hack in order to use BtAccel with some private trackers (at least low level private trackers).

(*) experimental

Thanks, I'll request an invite code.

If they check for the private flag on .torrent metadata, there's not much you can do, but hope the uploader forgot to tick it (happens, although very rarely). And on Gazelle trackers you're screwed, since the tracker software will add it if you forgot it. Setting it to 0 or removing it from the .torrent will change the info_hash, rendering it useless.

Edit: look at what I've found in the Zeropaid article:
Quote:
BTAccel says that it doesn’t support private BitTorrent tracker sites that “require user authentication beyond what can be passed in a URL.” So it won’t work for Waffles.fm, but it will for sites like RevTT. Note it does say that it maintains a 1:1 ratio.
Edit 2: the "zeropaid500" code still works

that's an impressive services you are talking about, and it implies that if your are torrenting via the HTTP protocol there's no need for port forwarding and Tunneling left.

yes thats what it implies
no extra software or protocol required
just the basic web browser
it will be good for the smartphones or the hand held devices on which extra software or a specific protocol cannot be added

Well, not exactly. They download the files on their servers, then you can get them off those. Much like Torrent-Relay before they closed.

I tried some things with RevTT, but they didn't work. Although I don't see why you can't get the .torrent over your real connection, upload it to a free Web hosting service, and make btaccel get it from there.

Although I've just realized that on sites using a "secure" login system (where you need to log in to the tracker before you can torrent with that IP, like at U-G), that probably won't work. This can be toggled off in your profile settings, though.

Whow thanks for the site! I also signed up using the "zeropaid500" code. It looks really usefull for my college network.

Is it safe to download illegal content? And if I use a proxy? I can't use a VPN connection in the classrooms.

I saw it, but it didn't say litteraly they would persue the downloader of the illegal content, so I'm not sure. Yes, is it safe(r) to download the files using a proxy.

If they don't keep logs, then I think yes. And you'll need a "real" (HTTP) proxy. Most Web ones like tntproxy.com have a size limit for downloads.

By the way, a service similar to this launched today:
http://www.httptorrents.com/

I thought to something like that... Have you tried to first dl a .torrent from RevTT, then upload it on Torrage, and then dl the file through btaccel with the Torrage link ? Is there any risk of ban (although Btaccel says it respect ratio) or risks concerning the passkey ?

Anon is right: Its better to use a proxy (and it would be better if Btaccel used https...) But some most of them are volume-limited. Couldn't you use apps such as UltraSurf ?

Btaccel in interesting when e.g. you have some free vpn that don't allow torrenting, or that has most ports closed.
