Is it an '82 Compaq Portable?
No, wait, that one isn't offline (as evidenced by the IRC client).
This is the one I'm referring to, wise-guy:

Which driver did you use to get audio working on Windows 95? Documentation says to use the SB128, but I remember having trouble with it.
I didn't install audio, yet. I will tonight.

On a side note, i'm thinking of installing Windows 10 LTSB in the near future. The builds have matured since the first fail of 1507 and work a a lot better now.
The fact of the matter is, you can only opt for CBB --Current Branch for Business (CBB) for Professional or Long-Term Servicing Branch for Enterprise. In gaming, Pro is the best, however you get to deal with unexpected updates from MicroShit. If you choose Enterprise, you will make your life a little easier. All editions when are first released will use Current Branch (CB), then after 6 to 8 months they move to Current Branch for Business (CBB).

The people that use CB branch are guinea pigs for microsoft's so-called "test team". They test all updates here, and if computers survive, it's a success!! Onwards to CBB!!! I'm forced to use LTSB because having 1GB's worth of updates forced upon every two months is not worth it. It will wreck your system, and will make entire windows base a lot bigger (hdd size).

And I would also suggest staying away from all tools/hacks/ that will disable telemetry. Most do not work, and your data is still sent!

Three floppy disks, turbo button, keyboard lock and a power switch. I'm loving it.

I really don't know what to do about windows 10. It's so fucked up, the licence, the programs, the updates... the more I know, the more I am certain I cannot go on with it. I just don't know what to do, stay on windows 8.1 or move to ubuntu? Contrary to popular belief, telemetry cannot be disabled, windows updates cannot be disabled. Microsoft built 10 as a Service and not as an OS. The ideea is "we at microsoft will do all maintenance, update, security checks on your behalf so that you don't have to". Updates are tied to delivering update packs, repairing windows, and remote configuration.

I would move to ubutnu but it still does not have all the things I need.
    LE:
Maybe it can be done... having VMWare Workstation installed on Ubuntu, with a Windows 10 virtual machine that runs non-linux programs like office suite, adobe, autodesk, bittorrent applications, notepad++ and foobar2000, etc. This virtual machine would need to run all the time, which means it is an automatic 16GB of ram dedicated to it. And partitions would have to be mapped in windows and linux, plus printers and USB sticks need to pass-through the VM.
One thing is for sure, the next computer will need to have 64GB of RAM. If your main OS uses 10-16GB of ram, plus a second OS that uses 16GB, plus a third VM for testing software and others, would need an additionl 8GB-16GB...

Yeah man, but for how long?Don't think of support --it's irrelevant. Think of newer programs that will not work on 7.

Wait, windows updates can't be disabled in 10? Are you serious? How do those who install pirated version work then?

If you use a loader, the SLIC certificate is loaded before windows starts and is impossible for microsoft to detect or disable it. This is the same as what OEM computers with serial key labels/COA label use.

If you use KMS, windows will connect to a fake auth server and activate itself. It adds KMS routine to Windows Task Scheduler, which can be removed and after 180 days from last connection (to the fake server) Windows will deactivate itself.

Both methods will work, and doubt microsoft detects these with updates.

Also, security updates are always available, pirated version or not. Microsoft is wise enough not to let botnets or malware get any worse, even if that means giving free support to those who can't or don't want to pay for Windows.

"About 3 million computers get sold every year in China, but people don't pay for the software. Someday they will, though. As long as they are going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade." -- Bill Gates, 1998

Are there pirated versions? Pirated windows 7 keys could be whitewashed into actual legal keys if you upgraded to win10 for a full year. IIRC it even still worked after the year had passed.
E.g. this is an actual scenario now: pirate win7, upgrade to win10, have a legal win10, profit ?

Sounds like something I would say. But that's exactly what they did, they WANTED users to steal their OS and products.

Yes and No. This is because in that specific case the BIOS battery was empty. And whatever settings you did were lost after shutdown.
But, if you have a good BIOS battery, then yes, it will become permanent.

I soo remember that time I wrote that. I was so happy. I got 50 bucks for that computer repair.

Yes, I've got the same scenario here. The script is already good as it is (until the computer can get online for ntpd to work), I was just wondering if the time can be fixed as well.
