The most popular web browser in the world has been reborn.

Microsoft made the latest version of Internet Explorer (http://blog.wired.com/business/2009/03/internet-explor.html) available as a free download Thursday. You can grab Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista or Windows XP (but not Windows 7) at microsoft.com/ie8 (http://www.microsoft.com/ie8).

IE8 has been in development for several months. If you've been using the pre-release betas or the most recent release candidate, then today's release won't be all that new to your eyes. Aside from some minor tweaks, the code is very much the same as what's been publicly available for almost half a year.

However, if you're coming to this release with fresh eyes, upgrading from Internet Explorer 7 or (heaven forbid) Internet Explorer 6, then you'll notice huge improvements across the board.

Seems not too much has changed from the betas. And it scores just 20/100 in the Acid3 test - but remember, according Microsoft, doing so (and therefore assuring standards compatibility) "does not map" to IE8's goals

I don't see why not

It's not on Microsoft Update yet, but will most likely appear there soon.

Maybe they try to make the ACID-compatibility better before they put it on the Update...
