p2pfire does :

[Tutorial] How to block harmful IP ranges with P2PFire
As you may know, it's always good to have an IP filter with an up-to-date blocklist to avoid taking risks when P2Ping, with the RIAA and anti-P2P organizations like MediaDefender and BayTSP around. Here's a tutorial about how to protect yourself from these dangers. In it we'll cover how to block harmful IP ranges using the P2PFire program, because it is free and open-source, doesn't slow down your connection like PeerGuardian if you haven't applied the TCP/IP half-open connections patch, and uses less than 6MB of RAM and 1% of CPU under heavy traffic. Note that it only works under Windows 2000, XP and 2003.

But

dont ipfilter with azureus do same job ?

thanks

Essentially - but P2PFire blocks IP ranges for your whole computer, while Azureus's IPFilter only affects the BitTorrent client.

P2PF also uses very little resources (4MB RAM and <1% CPU), while Azu's IPFilter will increase memory usage.

what exactly is this doing? it has lots of blacklisted ip ranges or does it hide the user ip from tracker?

It prevents you from contacting IPs that are in your blocklist. Useful to avoid anti-P2P bots, fake trackers, etc.

should my whole computer be protected ? who and how could try to access my computer ?
i think anti,-p2p companies only could reached me by bittorent or emule ,and azureus with ipfilter already block them

(i am not an expert,just i am a newbie )

That's up to you. I personally prefer not to connect to bad IPs at all, instead of preventing just my P2P client from doing so.

A possible hacker, for eaxmple - an anti-hacker blocklist is available here (http://iblocklist.com/lists.php).

Otherwise, I haven't heard of an anti-P2P organization or bot hacking inside filesharers' computers so far - but if your country doesn't allow you to upload or download copyrighted material, you may get in trouble.

So it is, basically.
