Only really have a few but one i do recomend is real player, it allows you to download video files directly, even if there isn't a download button.

I usually install addons as I need them. At the moment I'm using FF 3.6b2 with "feed sidebar" (for rss feeds), and "Tree style tab" (for better tab menagement) only.
By the way, hi to everyone, old and new, I'm back from vacation, and recession from torrenting so I might get active again. ^^

Check4Change,
Autoformer,
all-in-one-Gestures,
IE Tab,
Toggle private browsing,
adblock plus,
are my most used addons.
Private browsing ain't add-on, its feature.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9517 :confused2:
it's toggle private browsing..not private browsing.
Yes, that addon lets you toggle Firefox's Private Browsing feature with one click or keypress.
Hard to see any practical use for it, when without addon to start private browsing you go to Tools -> Start private ... or hotkey combo ctrl+shift+p
But maybe I'm just close minded and don't see the obivious usefulness of that addon.
Many firefox addons are useless. This is not the only one.

I have a question: Is there some means for a webmaster to know the addons that have those who are visiting his site ? If so, as for the history issue, we could be at risk on some tracker, if we reveal here a too big list of to big exotic addons.
Nevertheless, here is a very good security addon I have, that seems not to have been mentioned in preceding posts:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10444
I have a question: Is there some means for a webmaster to know the addons that have those who are visiting his site ?
I don't think so, unless that was sent in the HTTP requests or something... at most, they may be able to see the effects of certain addons, Adblock for example.

er....now on a more serious side note. There is an extension that will over-ride any of the old FF extensions to match any newer verision of FF.
That is, if Extension ABC has not been updated to the latest version of FF, but you want to have it anyways by overriding the 'max version' for each extension, you can install:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/421
Best to visit Homepage and read more of it.
MR Tech's Mozilla Extensions (http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/local_install/)
PSsssst..Don't tell anyone, but it's SUPER-DUPER-RUPER good and works awesome!!
any extension's 'max version' can be overridden with this tool.
Have fun.
any extension's 'max version' can be overridden with this tool.
Interesting - until now I did that the old-fashioned way, editing the XPI files myself!
This is nice when you can't wait for the addon's coder to update the max version, but not all of them will work correctly on newer builds. I remember that when 3.x was out, Header Filter and Add 'n Edit Cookies could be installed with this method, but didn't work at all.
Interesting - until now I did that the old-fashioned way, editing the XPI files myself!
same here. i've used nightlies for years so i always had to 'cheat' there.
short giude:
rename the xpi to zip
extract it
edit the .rdf file
zip it again
rename to xpi
open with the desired mozilla app
rename the xpi to zip
extract it
edit the .rdf file
zip it again
Or you can just open the XPI with 7-Zip, and use F4 to edit the RDF. The program will automatically recompress the file once finished.

assuming the app is available for the platform/os you're working with
you know when you use the Mr. Tech's Toolkit extension from the home page that I gave you guys, be-aware that the tool gives you the option to do alot more.
YOu can remove certain elements inside FF that you don't really want or need.
you'll see what I mean once you have a nmore thorough look at the extension's capabilities.
I think that I came across this extension when I was doing some researching on how to do the over-riding of some of the extensions myself and luckiliy, I came across this nice little baby.

roboform (www.roboform.com) This app is a password manager / gererator, formfiller and uses hi grade encryption. Use one master password to autologin of sites with 1-2 clicks
Let me add that b4 I post UnMHT as used plugin. But if you really want to have proper mht file I use IE. For those pages that IE cant save as MHT then I use the UnMHT plugin to force a partial save.
[edit]
Roboform: autologon using unique passwords and usernames for each site, not master password for each site. The master password is for the addon.

Presuming Windows usage Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin is a must (i know it is not an adddon but it should be mentioned) to get rid of using IE for streaming WMP media

Nope. Advertisement is a way of getting information. I think it's necessary to some extent. Of course,I'm annoyed of porn and spam advertisements.
Once upon a time,I ran a website. Main incoming was due to advertisements, it's hard to make money :wink: really hard experience... Feel for others.
I admire your determination. Webmasters need the ad revenue, after all.

+ Polipo installed
That's why I love Firefox: A good browser in itself, open source, stable and fast (although not the fastest), and highly customizable.
How could I get same features and security level with Chrome, or even Iron and Opera ??
Ps:
I wonder witch is really the best on a security point of view: Polipo or Privoxy ?? Polipo is known to be faster (as caching proxy), and I have read that Privoxy could not manage http1.1 (although I don't entirely understand what are the implications of this fact, because I don't know exactly what http 1.1 do with respect to http 1.0). In fact, I have chosen Polipo mostly because TorProject switched from Privoxy to Polipo.

In fact, I have chosen Polipo mostly because TorProject switched from Privoxy to Polipo.
If I remember correctly, Privoxy was safer but slower, while Polipo was faster but leaked more stuff without specific settings. I haven't checked the latest Tor bundles so I couldn't tell whether those are already implemented "from the factory".
The difference between HTTP 1.0 and 1.1 are basically persistent connections. For example, if I don't support v1.0 and want to visit a site with 9 images, I must make 10 connections, one per each resource. But by supporting v1.1, I can make 4 - one for the HTML document and three others to grab the images in groups of three. (3*3+1=10) This puts a lot less load on Web servers.
don't forget squid
I will seriously consider it.
But I already have JanusVM (powered by VMware, built on a Linux kernel, and bringing together openVPN, Squid, Privoxy, and Tor).
This reminds me of something: Does some people here know an addon witch actually erase networking data?
By "erase", I don't mean just "delete". I want an adddon to wipe the data, to nuke them, to completely destroy them (as I'm only level 6 paranoid, one random pass will be sufficient for me, at this moment).

What do you think about that:
Why Privacy+ and BetterPrivacy Don't Delete All LSOs
What most people, even those writing these add-ons, do not know--or in BetterPrivacy developer's case, refuse to believe--is that there are two locations (for each user profile on the computer) where Web sites store Flash cookies (LSOs).
By default, most LSO removers only check the "#SharedObject" subfolder in Macromedia's "Flash Player" folderWhichever.
There is another location in the "Flash Player" folder, "macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys", where LSOs are also stored. This also happens to be the location where the Global Settings LSO resides, which was created when you went to Macromedia's Settings page. When someone running Firefox with either BetterPrivacy or Privacy+ visits a site that sets an LSO, the LSO is placed in the folder that BetterPrivacy or Privacy+ are NOT monitoring.
BetterPrivacy is set by default to monitor the "#SharedObjects" folder, and I assume that Privacy+ is written to check the same folder. If the preferences are changed to check the #SharedObjects folder, then the LSOs will be placed in the "sys" folder. If it is set to check the "sys" folder, then LSOs will be set in the #SharedObjects folder.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14217
Not an issue for me as I have disabled Flash for all sites and made exceptions for the ones that need it, apart from checking both folders and removing tracking LSOs manually from time to time.
same here. flash and js disabled by default :top:

thx, maybe I could find something which integrates into the context-menu (win explorer).
I have built arch linux machine for my mom with, among other things, nicely tuned firefox setup (about:config was my friend pretty much all day).
Was also looking for some useful addons, but keeping in mind speed, lightness and simplicity. This is what I came up with at the end, maybe will someone find sth. interesting for himself too:
1. adblock plus (with easylist filter and some mine custom..)
2. Low Quality Flash (this neat addon set ups everything in flash to be shown in "low" quallity thus quite improving speed of flash - which is known to be slow on linux with heavy webpages / fullscreen youtube). I had big dillema should I go with this mod or with flashblock but decided to go with this after all...
3. Fission (for visualizing loading of webpage)
4. Vacuum Places Improved (for speeding up behavior of firefox)
5. Menu Mod (for hiding all menu's (file, edit, view...) and shrinking it all under one button (looks like this (https://addons.mozilla.org/img/uploads/previews/thumbs/5/5729.png) but with most menu and submenu hidden and of course with linux gtk2 look)
6. nuke anything enhanced (check description for that one on addons page)
For those users out there who love bleeding-edge software check out the development builds of adblock:
https://adblockplus.org/devbuilds/adblockplus/
Nice one and new for me:
*Close'n forget
Close the current tab and forget about the visit : suppress the cookies related to the current page and, if configured, the whole domain from the history.

Do you really need multiple lists? I think Fanboy's anti-tracking one is enough.
I use only easylist. Having too much lists enabled makes more chance for overlapping rules which generally isn't good idea according to official adblock documentation.
anon, is there specific reason for using fanboy's list over easylist? I was actually in dilleme which should I use from these two. Ended up with easylist as this one being "defoult" thus most maintained IMO.
edit: oh and easylist official pages/forum is nicer and shows more activity.

Well, I use his Opera list and it's a good one. I assumed the FF one is just as good.
Meh, its all good thing then... I tried both, and I don't see any ads with any of them on most frequent websites I visit. Not worth subject to think too much about it.

Multiple lists are doing fine for me , I tried only easy list and opened web pages with many ads unblocked , using multiple list i didn't come across a single ad during my browsing.
Multiple lists are good in firefox but not in chrome.
The chrome extension with more than one list really slows down the browsing.

Correct, although in Firefox I've never had to use U-A Switcher - HTTP Header Filter for the win!

You can imagine that if I could just overwrite any existing information about your IP address I would have done so (or somebody else would have a while back ago)...
But it's actually a little more tricky : when sending a request to a server you will provide several information about your IP address : three of them come from the Application Layer and the last one comes from the Transport Layer. This last one I can't modify : you wouldn't get the answer to your request if that was done. But the three others can be overwritten without any consequence to your browsing...
These three headers were created to provide information on the real IP of a person surfing through a proxy server. So when you enable IPFuck, the websites you are visiting will believe that your real IP is a proxy server and (if the website was done correctly) focus on the false IP you are sending...
A lot of websites try and figure out who is hidding behind a proxy server. And if you don't believe me (I won't mind), just check out this google search request : get real ip address php. Most of the snipplets given here will check HTTP headers (the one we overwrite) before the Transport Layer information ('REMOTE_ADDR').
IpFuck (https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/176007/)
In short: This addon attributes HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR , HTTP_CLIENT_IP and HTTP_VIA to some random or selected IP value, the REMOTE_ADDR being "of course" affected to your "true", vpn or proxy , IP address. So the website you visit think that your "true" IP is a only a proxy IP (what could actually be the case if you already use a proxy to connect to the web, but do not add complications), and that your true IP is one of the 3 random generated IP's.

You can do that yourself via Header Filter. Loved that addon when I used Firefox, and it still comes useful sometimes.

"Header filter" ?? I didn't knew this addon before, and find no trace of it on Mozilla's site (https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/search?q=Header+Filter&cat=all)
Maybe are you speaking about ModifyHeader (https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/967/) ?
I have it and like it, and IPfuck seems to be based on it, but for "ip obfuscation" purpose (presenting your real IP address for a proxy IP, and a faked one for your real IP) , I find Ipfuck more easy to use.

Yes, that's the one - mixed up the name

Funny, that may get your real IP on a blacklist for being a proxy. And that isn't exactly useful either.
Just found, installed and liked this (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161777/) one. Like themes for wikipedia, significantly improves readibility!

Your're right in pointing that.
It's an obvious risk if your own IP is static. The risk is weaker if you use a dynamic IP, or if you connect to the internet through a an IP already known as a proxy.
But in the first case, it may be interesting to suggest that your own IP is not really yours ; and in the second case, the extension may be considered as a tool allowing to transform every proxy in a configurable distorting proxy.
I got access denied using this addon, with no proxy. It has happened just once.

I had to reinstall firefox after a :vir: attack
So the first thing i do after i install FF is to go searching for add-ons...Even those few moments without my favorite add-ons made me uncomfortable...
1.Adblock Plus Pop-Up Addon
FF on it own is a great popup blocker but it can't stop on-click pop ups/unders.This unaffiliated extension of the popular adblockplus does just that
2.Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper
3.Chatzilla
4.Imagehost Grabber
5.Linkification
6.MultiLinks
7.NextImage
8.Profile manager and synchronizer
9.Profile Switcher
10.QuickRestart
11.Screengrab
12.ShowMeMore
13.Tabscope
14.Tinyeye Reverse Image Search
15.WML browser
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't include the most commonly used ones like flashblock/adblock/downloadhelper etc. coz almost everyone has them...
These are lesser known and most of them are now defunct(make them functional by changing .xpi file)
I use stumbleupon (or atleast used to,before work started...) a LOT and come across all types of websites and these addons make surfing that much more fun...
my favorite add-ons !
1/ Adblock Plus
2/ NoScript
3/ FEBE
4/ Flashblock
5/ IDM CC
6/ IE TAB
7/ STOP autoplay
