Background

In early 2005, a few people fed up with the way the Internet was heading, began in earnest to create a large wide area network that was secure and lived in its own space. On this new network anyone would be free to do as they saw fit - roam about, host services, or just be social without fear of being monitored or even worse censored. The first step to bring this network to fruition was to encrypt the information that normally travels across the Internet. What they ended up with is known as anoNet.

This network was inspired by MetaNet, another "dark" network on the Internet, that used similar techniques to reach their goals. A few "core" members of anoNet were once a part of MetaNet but due to their strict nature, peering with MetaNet was lost and they became an "island". anoNet has already surpassed what MetaNet had in membership, and is on its way to being a viable alternative to the "Internet" you currently know, whether you love it or hate it.

If you are feeling adventurous check it out. If you are feeling really adventurous you can help; there is still lots to be done.

Implementation

To implement this network, we have chosen to use OpenVPN and Quagga. We use OpenVPN to initially connect nodes to each other. Quagga is used to exchange routing information with those available to act as a "super node", allowing all peers on the network to reach each other.

An anonymous network. I found it recently during some random browsing and decided to share it with you, just in case someone is interested.
This is a list of what can be done in the network ATM:

Activities

Please note that any resource listed in this section can only be reached when your connection to the VPN is active. If it is not, you will get unexpected results.

Once you have connected to the VPN itself, you may do any number of things:

To get the full anoNet experience, use one of our cache DNS servers (1.0.9.53 or 1.10.11.1) so that you can resolve anoNet domains! Getting your own domain such as example.ano is no problem, just ask!
Visit our Wiki, wiki.ano (http://1.0.9.3).
Visit our IRC network using 1.0.9.1 or 1.0.1.1 port 6667 (6697 for SSL) with your favourite IRC client. Join #anonet and we can help you get started with anoNet.
If you would like a more secure form of communication, you can use our SILC server at silc.ano:706
Visit our message forum talk.ano (http://1.0.9.4), where you can discuss anything under the sun! Literally. That is what this network is about -- free speech.
Use the anoNet jabber network (jabber.ano port 5222 or 5223 ssl for v1 clients), where you can chat with others using your favourite Jabber client! Jabber directory at users.jabber.ano
Grab yourself a webmail account mail.ano (http://1.0.9.6) if you don't want to run your own mail server. anoNet has no spam.
Search anoNet using our spidering search engine search.ano (http://1.0.9.8).
Use our Bittorrent tracker anotorrent.ano (http://1.0.9.200)
There is an open Icecast streaming server at stream.icecast.ano (1.0.9.16) port 8000, password anonet. It supports 20 streams and 200 listeners. The directory server is at icecast.ano (http://1.0.9.16)
Once again to promote free speech we have a multi-user blog at anojournal.ano (http://1.0.9.13)
If file sharing is your thing we have ed2k and dc++ servers.
If gaming is for you, there is a bnetd server. (Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood Wars, Warcraft II, Warcraft III, Diablo, Diablo II)
We also have World of Warcraft server setup (Running MaNGOS and a combination of SDB and Modb)
Remember, you can be a server too! Do you want to play a multi-player game? Go ahead! Install a game server, advertise it around (if you like), and get people to play with you!
Not only can you be a game server, but you can offer files, stream media, host your own web page, or anything else you want!
There is far too much to the network to list here, if it sounds like something you would be interested in, then connect up.

al you have to do is just try them out, kinda exhausting but I guess it worths it already....

Yes, I know how tedious that can be, having tried it myself. :frown:

I think I'll give anoNet (http://anonet.org/) a try: it's OpenVPN-based so it should encrypt my traffic = my ISP's shapers can't "see" P2P activity , plus BitTorrent & eD2K are allowed, and even encouraged, if "file sharing is your thing", according their homepage. :top:

Just tried it yesterday, some minutes after making that post. It doesn't let me bypass the throttling - anoNet's server bandwidth is limited, and I can reach about the same speeds as when using my "normal" connection.

Although I got really interested by their idea of a private sub-network inside the bigger Internet. They also seem to have a nice community and some services you can't otherwise access without being connected to it, like the anoNet wiki and search engine. :top:

If you're interested I really recommend you check it out, just to see if you like the idea, too.

Maybe there is already a unique tool they might be having for such issue you got ? did you tried searching for similar cases in their Support/Help section ?

Yeah, why not ! Always like trying new things...:top:

Yeah, why not ! Always like trying new things...

hey aurion, i can recommend you this method too!
i am using it from yesterday on since anon told me about it. :klatsch_3:
and i havent experienced any problems so far, even the speed is no issue over here. (can dl & ul in full speed)
so if it works for you too, then i see no reason why not using it! :top:

Maybe I'll drop by their IRC later, but anyway I don't intend to use it as a workaround for my lame limitation anymore. It's like in Tor - they're providing their bandwidth for free so that others form part of the network, so P2Ping at full speeds at their expense isn't fine at all.

anoNet itself has a nice community - IRC, wiki, forum, search engine and game servers. It's nice to spend some time there checking what's new, even if it's otherwise not your intention to remain anonymous.

And I have moved the latest posts to this thread, because they had nothing to do with fake trackers.

unfortunately anon and me have stumbled upon the fact that even after connecting to anonet, gmail and cmyip.com were able to detect the real ip address.
this led us to the fact that anonet encrypts just the traffic that's made within its own network, and not from and to the outside internet.
so, if you want to be safe outside the anonet network you'll have to consider switching to another solution, such as using a proxy server or buying yourself a fully working vpn service. :frown:

Correct. It was quite bad to discover that, since until now I thought I had found a way to encrypt my online activities for free, which is good even if it wouldn't let me bypass my ISP's throttling [because of not encrypting traffic to the outside Internet].
Seeing my real IP at cmyip.com at the same time as those small green monitors in my taskbar was a hard blow. :frown:

I'll still drop by anoNet from time to time anyway.

mmm. I have one question about proxy. I wanted to open a new thread but I think I would just post here and hope someone can help.

it is a about public proxy. I mean how can you have an IP from let's say Europe or Japan.
if you use public proxy, you will have an IP from US. most of them are

but is it possible to have an IP from Europe like UK, France, sweden, etc

If you're talking about proxy apps, yes, most of them have a USA or Canada IP address. An easy way to find proxies hosted in specific countries is to google "(country name here) proxies". A lot of lists will appear, for example:

Sweden Open Proxy List (http://www.xroxy.com/proxy-country-SE.htm)
France Open Proxy List (http://www.xroxy.com/proxy-country-FR.htm)
Great Britain (UK) Open Proxy List (http://www.xroxy.com/proxy-country-GB.htm)

Of course, here (http://www.sb-innovation.de/f71/0day-proxies-150-new-proxies-updated-regularly-3850/)'s a huge list :top:

When all I need to do is to jump on a site quickly with a different IP to test something, bypass school/cafe filters or simply do some brief anonymous browsing, I use any proxy from Aurion's list.

If you need a faster proxy server, try using Ultrasurf's or Freegate's; they also encrypt your HTTP traffic.

When I need a web proxy real fast TNTProxy (http://www.tntproxy.com/) is the first one that springs to mind

I notice that when using Proxy, I cant use Thanks button
I press thanks button and the page reload but my thanks does not appear.
anyone have this issue too when using proxy? which proxy that can work ?

anon

The thanks button (along a lot of other vBulletin features) depends on JavaScript to work properly, if at all. Disable the "no scripts" option in your web proxy to make it work fine.
