View Full Version : Spanish Cabbies Want GTA Banned in Wake of Thai Taxi Murder
Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia reports that an association of taxi drivers has called for a ban on Grand Theft Auto.
We're working from an imprecise Google translation, but the basics of the story are that Josep Maria Go?i, secretary general of the Catalan Taxi Federation, has requested that the Spanish government pull GTA titles off the market.
Go?i makes it clear that the Taxi Federation's request is based on the Thailand murder case. The cabbie spokesman didn't stop at GTA, however, calling for a ban on all games with a high level of violence or which "celebrate" drug trafficking or prostitution.

lol some of the game's basic ideas got into the streets but this time for REAL ! I guess they should stop their children to play that game for a while
The cabbie spokesman ... calling for a ban on all games ... which "celebrate" drug trafficking or prostitution.
In GTA you just get in-game $ for doing that  Anyway, rating systems are sometimes lame, but a kid shouldn't be able to walk into a store and buy GTA or similar games (just like in my country)

toatally agree, there are games out there that is too explicit for kids

I remember the very first version of Resident Evil (damn, what a Lovely game with fine memories for me) that after the Capcom trademark page,u see a long msg with "This game contains bla bla bla contents bla bla" so for sure there is a higher power authorizing this kinds of content to be published in the market

I think that's for parents to see when watching their kids play, in case these managed to "bypass" the rating system having an older brother buy the game.
yeah those games probably get over-rated most of the time since kids love voilence & action stuff, but for that RE game it was a blast back then, with an extraordinary rated scale by most gamers around the globe
In RE games you're in a mansion and have to kill all zombies. In GTA you're in a city and can kill everyone for fun <- I think this is where the problem is
well u got a point there bud !! the thing is,living reality more than he/she should, however I guess the core of such a game (GTA) is based on getting the gamer out of the usual gaming box (a building,a house,a planet ...etc u know what i mean) just to give him/her a new gaming experience & to make him/her play for absolute Fun !!
Yes, GTA is one of the so-called "sandbox games", where there may be or not a main goal, and you can do a lot of things in the game world; when you're bored, you can fire a GTA game up and start doing random stuff like flying helicopters, driving, delivering pizza ^^ or just running around shooting people and see how much time it takes the cops, SWAT, FBI to take you down
yeah thats why I think its very hard for such a game to fall down in the world market since it got some serious fame from numerous numbers of gamers/fans around the globe so restrictions are limited to certain regions
