Off-the-Record (OTR) Messaging allows you to have private conversations over instant messaging by providing:

* Encryption
No one else can read your instant messages.

* Authentication
You are assured the correspondent is who you think it is.

* Deniability
The messages you send do not have digital signatures that are checkable by a third party. Anyone can forge messages after a conversation to make them look like they came from you. However, during a conversation, your correspondent is assured the messages he sees are authentic and unmodified.

* Perfect forward secrecy
If you lose control of your private keys, no previous conversation is compromised.

Hm, MirandaIM is quite a nice client for MSN to.
Tabbed windows, even a icq tab beside a msn beside a jabber tab :)
If you configure it like its an perfect, minimalistic messenger.
If you like dozens of buttons and thousends of functions with 103434 colors, video chat via skype and msn, with a few plugins ( there are millions of high-qualitiy-plugins) even this is possible.

Great things about this software apart from many IM networks support are lightweight, multiple operating system support and stability. Profiles can be exported between operating systems.

That's because it's bloated.
There isn't any reason to install a program like this to access a social network website. As for emails, there far better choices and more advanced. Outlook is better than this at that. And that's bloated as hell.
