Last night Intel officially introduced their Centrino 2 platform to the public. At the heart of Centrino 2 are five new CPUs (3 of which boast a TDP of 25W), 2 new chipsets (GM45 and PM45), enhanced wireless, and better graphics. Key highlights include:

# 45nm Intel Core2 Duo Processor: Intel's best processor with industry-leading, energy-efficient dual-core performance, now offers a 1066MHz FSB and up to 6MB L2 cache and both 35W and new 25W TDP offerings.
# Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset: The newest Intel chipset delivers a dramatic improvement in video quality, over 3X better 3D graphics performance, over 80% faster performance when compressing standard definition video, and up to 90% faster performance when compressing HD video.
# Intel WiFi Link 5000 Series: The new Intel Wi-Fi Link 5000 Series offers greater range and speed when connecting to a Wireless-N network. The Intel WiFi Link 5300 is the world's first WLAN Adapter that can provide up to 450 Mbps of network bandwidth while the WiFi Link 5100 provides up to 300 Mbps of receive network bandwidth a bandwidth increase of up to 8x and 5x respectively compared to 802.11a/g.
# Intel 82567 Gigabit Network Connection: three new Gigabit networking products with low TDPs and system idle link downshift for Energy Star* power savings.
# New optional products and features: a 2GB Intel Turbo Memory module and switchable graphics capabilities.
# Intel Core2 Extreme dual-core mobile processor X9100: the Intel Core2 Extreme dual-core mobile processor X9100, with both cores running at a brisk 3.06 GHz with a 1066 MHz FSB and 6MB L2 cache, also features mobile-specific power saving features, is the world's highest performing mobile processor, and addresses demand for even faster notebook PCs for hardcore gamers, artists and media enthusiasts.

Amazing that Intel continues to improve their chips in so short periods.... :shockkk!:

I just hope that AMD will also have some innovations soon, otherwise Intel will soon have a monopoly... :frown:

if intel continues to go on at this pace amd will need to make something like a very cheap amd athlon vista 10000+ to be able to compete...

i was an AMD fan but since amd was getting expensive i switch to intel .duo core was cheaper than amd at that time ..hopefully the intel centrino 2 wil bel just as good as the duo core.

yeah that what I meant, anyway IMO laptops are not designed for games (at least for huge game like Crysis which requires a monster pc)

(at least for huge game like Crysis which requires a monster pc)

and for "normal" games you need to run them at low res (400x300 :shockkk!:) and quality :frown:... anyway being able to take your laptop anywhere and start playing makes up for that haha

The cafe I go to has 1666Mhz processors and 64 MB VRAM gfx cards so if they throw several smoke grenades at you you're dead (even with fastsprites 2)

yeah same here too,I used to hang out @ an Inet Cafe which used extremely low-end resources PCs running 24h,it was kinda time-wasting tho to hang out there, anyway thank GOD I have my own PC
