View Full Version : Extrem komprimierte .rar Datei

well, what supermarrioh said. the compressed file was most likely GBs of 00 00 00 00... which rar can compress like "this is just 7gb of NULs", that explains the super-packing

and yes, KGB is known for extremely high compression rates (you can compress office 2007 in 2mb and gta: san andreas in 64kB for example :shockkk!:), but also for demanding all your cpu, memory and lifetime to unpack an archive

yes ... thats right xD i wish it would be a little bit faster

if multi-processor support was added... could bring that k6-2 i have dropped somewhere to help a little with my unpacking needs

I don't know this software, but doesn't it have multicore support?

For an archivieng software it is not all-too good not to have multicore support.

But if it has multicore support one day I think it wouldn't take a very long time on a quad system to compress some files, so we just have to wait for a version with multicore support.

you can find its homepage here (http://kgbarchiver.net/) to know more about it

anyway last update was on october 7 2007, so we're unlikely to see an official version with multi-proc support... :frown:

yet the program is open-source...

Ok, I see.

Too bad the thing with the updates. :frown:
But cause the software is open source maybe some other coders are continuing the work and release an update.

hope so it will be:

Look at this thread.
It's a newer one and the admin is talking about considering of making a multicore version.

oops, hadn't seen that

anyway he's effectively taking his time to think about it... multi threading would be relatively secondary... this app is mostly noted for being able to compress full cds in a handful of megabytes and with the advent of every time faster processors there'll be a day when unpacking a dvd will take just some minutes of your time

but it'd be cool to have it!! :frown:

yes, this day is coming.

But at the moment I think it would take longer to unpack a compressed movie instead of downloading the movie uncompressed.

specially if you use "download boxes" (comps without monitor that use legacy hardware but have very fast connections, which are left downloading all day and are controlled using soft like radmin or uT's web ui)

That's true.

But I usually down- and upload with my HomePC. Only if I need more speed I use the root of my friend for leeching and seeding and then I download my stuff from there using FTP.

But I usually down- and upload with my HomePC.

so do i

i remember having semi-DL boxed a full dvd long ago using school computers which had faster connections... used a then-new 256mb mp3 player to transfer the .r00 .r01 etc partfiles, transfering 256 mb of them from school to my home every day. when i had transfered around 2.5gb, the admin deleted the folder (and it was well hidden) :frown:

good memories :klatsch_3:

But we're getting off the topic I think.

you're right, sorry :top:

just another little comment  a thread could be made to share past experiences/memories/good moments you had with p2p, i have a few more i'd love to share

hi..

meine einstellungen:

Archivformat: KGB
Packalgorithmus: PAQ7
Kompressions Stufe: Maximum

fällt wem was ein?^^

Feel free to start such a thread. :top:

anon

a pdf... these are already somehow compressed i think; i.e. i have looked for BMP, GIF, JPEG, and PNG fileheaders in several pdfs i have and found nothing, so if they're not compressed, at least obfuscated/crypted :confused2:

yes, that can be done... of course i can't give you the link, but google for "office 2007 kgb", several mirrors are still up

just for looks :biggrin::

loool o.O ... office 2007 compressed to 2 mb ^^
I love KGB ^^ ... but the time it takes to compress such big files is terrible xDDD

and here we have gta: sa in 64kB :eek3::

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/5332/20811243tx2.gif

cool to show off with your friends in a netcafe and say "i have gta in 64kb :cool2:" but mostly useless otherwise, unless you pay for a 10hrs combo and start unpacking ^^

FUU***K ... where do you get these files from? hope its allowed to ask that :confused2:

well, of course i can't give you direct links  but do a google search for "san andreas kgb", "(app name) kgb" or "kgb archiver apps"
