Installation:

Windows

1. Download the latest OpenJDK Java. It must be Java version 15 or higher. (JDK GA Release (http://jdk.java.net/15/)).
2. Download and install the latest non-beta BiglyBT release (BiglyBT - Download (https://www.biglybt.com/download/)). Do not open BiglyBT after installation.
3. BACK UP YOUR TORRENT LIST! IT IS LIKELY YOU WILL LOSE IT! You must export your torrents. Copying or exporting / importing old configurations will not work.
4. Extract the hack files using 7-Zip (7-Zip Download (http://www.7-zip.org/download.html)) or equivalent to %PROGRAMFILES%\BiglyBT (C:\Program Files\BiglyBT) and overwrite ALL files.
5. Delete the "jre" folder in %PROGRAMFILES%\BiglyBT (C:\Program Files\BiglyBT).
6. Open the OpenJDK archive downloaded in step 1 and extract the "jdk-XX" folder to the BiglyBT folder %PROGRAMFILES%\BiglyBT (C:\Program Files\BiglyBT).
7. Rename the extracted "jdk-XX" folder to "jre".
8. Run Notepad and open %APPDATA%\BiglyBT\java.vmoptions (C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\BiglyBT\java. vmoptions), append the following lines:


--patch-module=java.base=ghostfucker_utils.jar

4c. Hold the "Option/Alt" key, then right click on the Finder icon in the dock and click Relaunch
4d. Once you have copied the files, you can revert to hiding folders with:

5. Open up a Terminal and run the following commands. NOTE: You need to replace "PATH_TO_OPENJDK_ARCHIVE" in the first command to the path to the OpenJDK archive from step 1.

NOTE: Some distros do not have an OpenJDK of version 9 or greater available. In which case, you will need to download and extract the tar.gz package supplied by OpenJDK (JDK GA Release (http://jdk.java.net/15/)).

2. Download the latest non-beta BiglyBT release and make it executable (BiglyBT - Download (https://www.biglybt.com/download/)).

Troubleshooting:
Before posting problems please make sure:
1. You have updated Java in the "jre" folder to the latest version (must be Java 15 or higher) (JDK GA Release (http://jdk.java.net/15/)]).
2. You have uninstalled BiglyBT using the uninstaller.
3. You have removed the BiglyBT Application folder:


C:\Program Files\BiglyBT (Windows x64)
C:\Program Files (x86)\BiglyBT (Windows x86)
/Applications/BiglyBT (macOS)
~/biglybt / /home/<username>/biglybt (Linux)

4. You have removed the BiglyBT Settings folder:

5. Reinstalled BiglyBT using the package from BiglyBT - Download (https://www.biglybt.com/download/).
6. Re-applied the hack by following the installation instructions above.

Portable Mode:

Hah. While I haven't upgraded yet, I was going to ask if you were completely sure, since I can personally attest 3.0.0.0 works with Java 18... and it would be highly unusual to drop support for a specific JRE while continuing to work with an older one!

If the mod still doesn't start, open the error log in your desktop and post the contents here or use a pastebin if it's too long. If it does start, there's a problem with install4j and/or a lingering Java runtime; a fairly frequent occurrence with many posts documenting it. You shouldn't use the mod in this state, as closing the terminal window will immediately end execution, but as a last-resort solution you can write a script that will run javaw instead and let it operate normally.

I have downloaded this mod yesterday and tested it for a while.
I exclusively use bittorrent clients with network interface binding support because I am german and I have been caught downloading torrents (big fines....).
Now I am looking for ways to make my torrenting safe. I have now subscribed to a VPN service and I have my Torrent clients bound to the VPNs virtual network card.
I became interested in this mod because it has the option to disable uploading completely.
The problem is I thought it should not upload at all but it still does even though I set it to No Upload! :icon_angry[1]:
How do I fix this problem :confused: .

Also I wonder if the bind function in Bigly BT works as good as qBittorrent's.

That's the most important thing to me! There should be no leaking AT ALL. I don't want to pay hefty fines (stupid Germany....).
So I ask you: how long have you been using this mod? Are you using it in combination with a VPN?
Does the bind function work the same way as qBittorrent's one or is it worse or better?
Has any leaking occured for you using this client bound to VPN??

There are a few things you should check.

Changes to Extreme Mod settings do not apply retroactively. If you have already added torrents, you must enable "No upload" for them individually.
"Disable no upload for LAN connections" should not be ticked. This is the default, but double-check it just in case.
There are Interface settings to either never display protocol overhead or count it separately from "real" upload. Select one depending on your preference.
Even after following step #3, some very small amounts of traffic may get counted as uploaded data. This is normal and happens with all clients.

The code for this feature is flawless, and there's never been a bug report for it that wasn't addressed by the above list.


Also I wonder if the bind function in Bigly BT works as good as qBittorrent's.

It is the most advanced one I have seen in any client, but has two caveats.

Bindings are only preferred and not enforced by default, which defeats their purpose in this scenario. Trivial to fix by enabling the appropriate setting.
Under Windows, BiglyBT gives Unix-style pseudonames to network interfaces, instead of using GUIDs or device descriptions. The criteria for assigning/deriving these is a crapshoot (for instance, the first and currently only Ethernet and wireless adapters in my computer are eth5 and wlan4), which may make bindings unreliable if you add or remove network interfaces. You can however select by description (which is fixed and unique) if you specify a regular expression that carefully and exclusively matches what you want. Binding by IP address is always possible, but less reliable.

Don't forget to disable IPv6 support (unless your VPN is one of the very few that currently offers it) and remove all alternative DNS servers to avoid leaks, measures that should also be duplicated at the OS level. Then, it's easy to test if you've set everything up correctly: add an Ubuntu torrent, limit the download speed to 10 KB/s, then disconnect your VPN on purpose. The download should stop and remain completely dead until you reconnect; if it doesn't, you did something wrong. Throw in any torrent IP checker to know what address trackers see when things do work and you should have all the assurance you need.

It's better that way, as your torrents won't die if the private address changes.

Mullvad is good, just make you use a forwarded port and keep in mind they don't offer true IPv6 support, only NAT66 with a Unique Local Address.

Sure, but keep in mind troubleshooting setups that deviate from what's addressed in the first post is your responsibility. The sheer amount of OS, Java and bitness combinations makes supporting all of them inviable, and alternative JREs may add bugs and idiosyncrasies of their own.

The only thing you can spoof in a non-detectable way is other versions of uTorrent, which requires manually patching the executable and obviously would not be a solution here in any case. I can only recommend BiglyBT Extreme Mod, which is able to spoof any client other than rTorrent, and has many other features.



Let's not get ahead of ourselves. GGn's reasons were relatively specific to them, and issuing a blanket ban on a client that is still very popular and accepted (almost) everywhere is a major hindrance to both users and site operators.
