eMule 0.50a is an old program, let us look at the environment updates and configurations

addresses.dat
nodes.dat
server.met
staticservers.dat

source:
https://github.com/irwir/eMule/releases
pick latest release (for example 0.60d) extract files from list above to config folder
third party:

ip-to-country.csv

source:
https://github.com/emulefanscom/ip2c
pick World Country-level ip2c English (copy to config folder)

ipfilter.dat

https://www.rarlab.com/rar_add.htm

MediaInfo.dll (32bit)

source

according to https://github.com/irwir/eMule/releases not all new versions may be supported?

addresses.dat
nodes.dat
server.met
staticservers.dat

addresses.dat and staticservers.dat contain transient and customized data respectively (see 7284), so they probably shouldn't be overwritten. For server.met, 16382 receives an updated list whenever I need to use eMule for something  Every entry in it is manually verified by me. nodes.dat gets stale fairly quickly, but refreshes itself through regular usage, so manual updates aren't necessary unless you're one of those who don't use servers at all (in which case eMule Security updates their node list once a day).

I only found it around two months ago! eMule Security updated it once a month, but stopped on April 2021. This one at least made it to November... then again, there aren't many changes in the IPv4 address space these days.

ipfilter.dat

eMule Security provides monthly updates; theirs is basically the level 1 list plus some extras, which in turn I use as a baseline for further additions of my own.

> UnRAR.dll

> MediaInfo.dll (32bit)

I have never used these, so no comment.

Exploit safety:
Windows security > exploit protection

I'm not aware of any serious vulnerabilities in eMule, but the usual principles always apply. Run as an unprivileged user and use GflagsX to enable additional mitigations (but only if you know what you're doing, they aren't candies!).

With servers I trust no one but the current maintainer/ mainline community.

Maybe we can trust, however safest bet is extraction from main
