View Full Version : On which trackers have you been banned ?

WTF

I dont see any thread as that so i create this  and now tell us which trackers you was banned for cheating or trading... (not inactivity)
For me, i was banned in many tracker on the cheating career
Hmm...let me remember...
First trackers i was banned when i just started cheating is IPT SDbits (used very high speed - i'm actually a noob at that time, didnt know sb-i until that. Then,
PTP (2 times) - trading, just create a thread and made some suspicious action, then a global ban on many tracker: BCG, FF, Tophos, PTM, awesome-hd, T-D, fux0r, Learnbits, RevTT
Underground-gamer and TTi (2 times) - use very high speed :stupid:
Then BitmeTV (3 times) - use unrealistic speed and dupe :frown: and Bitme (1) the same reason
And the last one is Music-vids, yesterday, trading....:baeh:

And the fun is i've got a seedbox today, i'm thinking about using seedbox to cheat :rolling_eyes:

I will report my previous post.I though I need to remember all.
Let's see:
1x RevTT when they added new antti-cheating scripts and greedy-torrent stopped working.
2x what.cd 1x me noob thinking greedy torrent will work and 1x accidental flashing.
1x waffles I think misused waflles method but not sure.
and many many others.I remember trying tools on all the new trackers in order to see what happens.
Will edit the post if I remember more.

To keep track of all my mails, accounts, forum accounts, tracker related stuff I made a database in access. According to it, I currently have 60 accounts disabled. Of course I created this last summer and I've been torrenting since 2007 so do the math... A lot of of disables came from bitgamer, undergroundgamer, what.cd and bitmetv.
bitgamer and ug because (at that time) i wanted to giveaway upload and needed huge amounts of upload to do so. What.cd because I never understood how to successfully cheat. I have a 1-year old account with more than 1GB (real) uploaded and I don't think I'll cheat again there. It's too risky and I've already endangered too many inviters. Bitmetv was just stupidy but that was long before I learned to how to cheat correctly.

LE: Sorry, I confused banned with disabled. Only on what.cd I was banned. They keep track of my mac address.

1 x IPT [My friend convinced me to flash 1 TB in 1 announce, he told me he did it & it worked, screw him :D]

That's it,
I don't get banned for cheating a lot because I let my friend try out first on his trackers.

But ofcourse I've been banned for inactivity on a lot of trackers.
Also been banned a couple of times for getting an invite from/inviting traders.

At least on What.cd you can go to their IRC channel and ask to have it back. Their database won't forget you... ever.

I can only speculate on why a tracker which doesn't delete accounts and has no "hard" user limit disables inactive accounts, actually.

I wonder if the country has any influence on banning.

I have a HD-T and PTP test accounts to play around with different cheating tools or settings.
Beeing a newbie, I obviously made mistakes.
A month ago, I tested ratiomaster with HDT and managed to forget to turn off a cheat during my holidays, resulting in a 30GB torrent reporting 300GB of upload. they didn't even blink an eye.
After that, I consistently try stupid things to test them, no news so far.
PTP is not much better, I also made a few "obvious" mistakes there.
My personal best is a 17.85 GB torrent that reported an UL of 2.84 TB (on purpose).
Waffles is miserable too, 260GB over a week, Brokenstones: 250GB over a week.

I'm starting to think that trackers focus on countries famous for cheating or H&R (like Egypt) and leave the rest alone.

Codec
31.08.16, 20:13
You got lucky i guess because trackers like PTP ban a lot. I would advise you to not cheat on PTP as it's not safe. HD-t is easier, try waffles method with moderate speed. Download the internal releases, those have many leechers. I'm really wondering why they haven't noticed such a high upload from a small file on PTP.

molosse
01.09.16, 00:37
the crazy upload was not on PTP, it was another tracker, sorry for the confusion.
on my PTP test account, I now use fake upload "ratio mode" with values between 1.1 and 1.2, so I don't cheat much, just a little.
But I agree that PTP isn't worth to cheat. it's very easy to have a great ratio with their bonus system combined with freeleeches.

OMFG, that's scary as shit. Those sons of bitches, I feel bad for those users who got caught on this, because wcd took advantage on an exploit and took really great lenghts to ban people up and down, left to right. I feel like there was an evil person behind all this, with much hatred inside. Well, it's all gone now. Karma is a bitch as they say.

I feel like there was an evil person behind all this, with much hatred inside. Well, it's all gone now. Karma is a bitch as they say.

I wouldn't call them evil, but they certainly got carried away. Anyone with the wrong entries on their browser history became an undesirable that had to be banned. But don't take my word for it, let their registration chart and your knowledge of what happened on April 2009 speak for themselves.

At the end of the day, there are no good guys in BitTorrent and presumption of innocence doesn't exist. While we're at it, the following exchange may be why Mihai was in the blacklist above, even though this wasn't his account and he had no relation whatsoever with it.

Also, apparently I am a bad friend :gnoes: (To be fair, this particular member of the staff had previously and publicly praised my skills and stated it's a shame I wasn't on their side, so that kind of evens it out)

Special mention to Cirno from BCG for spreading bullshit rumors about how this forum's database had been hacked and IPs leaked, hope the juice was worth the squeeze.

Gotta agree, dont think its hatred or simple evilness, they did get carried away a looot. Started with (the most) decent anti cheating scripts and then, if you ask me, they exaggerated a lot by simple ticking you as a bad influence based on your CSS history. I mean, hey, I could be reading these boards out of interest, like staffers do, or whatever (less likely). But obviously its much easier to just ban whoever navigated it, and automatize the script. Like country IP bans..

Didnt really piss me off, but I laughed hard at the simple assumption they took. Because I was a legit user.

Well, in the end, they and many other trackers solutions and accusations ended up backfiring, because I and many other users got to know this forum because of them. :D
In my case it was when a tracker called nTorrents was online, it specialized in nintendo games. I used a nickname there which had an exact equivalent here. When I entered their IRC to ask what was going on, you can imagine the mess with me trying to prove my innocence! Later on I came here, signed up, made friends with a lot of users including the one I was sharing the same nick on the tracker, and here I am. :wgrin:

There's been a couple of attempts here at doing the opposite: framing an innocent user by taking their name and avatar, then making posts about cheating or trading accounts. It was sad to see how extremely effective that can be :gnoes:

Lol, seems depressing and only feel sorry for them if they really did that. Not only for the users but mostly for the people that did this themselves. Seems kinda depressing and quite miserable if you think about it.

Many staffers have grown arrogant and way to egomaniac in a quite autistic way. Who doesn't remember those levels of Whatcd's staff?
Well better don't judge in order not to be judged. Thats the rule.

You will probably end up losing bib. Sometimes tracker staff are slow in checking reports about cheaters, traders..etc. I knew a guy who got global ban but it took 1 month for AHD to ban him from the site.

Recently i got banned on Bitme (first) and DigitalHive (second) even though i didn't cheat. I had good stats on bitme by uploading 20-30 torrents and seeding from a seedbox.

Copying my post from another thread.

No reporting; show as leech: on IPT, because fuck their hit & run system. Prevents my real upload from being counted, but my buffer is big enough anyway.
Speed mode++; add your real uploaded amount + show you as seeder: lets me get bonus points and seeding exposure on torrents which I'm technically partial-seeding because I didn't download a sample or foreign audio track. Fake upload speeds set both to 0.

Well, after rereading this I don't think I can actually claim not doing any cheating, but there's no fake upload involved, and most of the "show as seeder" (ab)use takes place on a tracker that has no bonus points system.

those are all for profit sites. So it's a market strategy. They pretty much have the same content, but some sites get some scene releases while other's don't, so i guess they operate independently.
IPT is the best, most uncompressed content and lot's of non scene releases and packs.

The terms market segmentation and cornering the market fit fairly well when you consider the monthly profits he earns from these trackers. Anyway, each one has or had a gimmick to make them different. IPT is the best and biggest of the bunch, and can be yours for just $20! TorrentDay is the runner-up partly because they "invented" 100,000 users and used to artificially double all peer stats. Speed.cd is the smaller and friendlier one where you can apply for an invite without paying to download their fake aXXo torrents. I'm not familiar with SceneTime and Deildu, but guess who also owns lookpic.com, a seedbox provider and a huge pirate IPTV service?

Read the following threads if you want to have a laugh. When IPT's sysop got doxxed, we found out merwais was affiliated with him and possibly getting his share of the money too. Makes it funny (and a bit cringey) to read the posts where he denies being a shill, and those where he goes apeshit at me, because people who cheat don't donate for upload credit :weirdo:

You picked a fairly tame one. Back in the day, he used to detonate at me every time I mentioned IPT or its affiliate sites, irrespective of context... sort of like a lovesick puppy with rabies. Interestingly, this stopped completely after the last thread I linked to.

Never been banned from a tracker. I have had accounts get deactivated though.

Interesting how so many people get banned from TL. Seeding isn't always the easiest, but it doesn't require the user a ton of upkeep compared to other trackers. I'd assume a lot of users use it as a test tracker of sorts, seeing what they can get away with since most TL content is on other trackers?

Speed recently had signups. Everyone on Reddit was going on and on that you have to join because it is part of the IPT family (I guess that is a big deal?). I joined, looked around, and didn't notice anything special. I wasn't much of a fan of the interface either.

This thread is almost a decade old. The features that make TL easy to seed on nowadays (freeleech and bonus points) were only added fairly recently and much, much later than on other trackers of the same kind. There was also a time when they didn't open signups so often... or at all!

I'm surprised to hear that. Whenever the "IPT family" (a.k.a. mafia) is mentioned in Reddit, most replies will be along the lines of how these sites should not be supported in any way, even by merely possessing an account, because they're run by an unscrupulous sysop that is also known to have DDoSed his rivals and stolen peers from them. Which is true, mind you, but does not preclude what the occasional, more level-headed response will also tell you: they're good trackers on their own right and worth having, just don't donate or participate in the community and be sure to keep your account active.

Some time ago, an alleged ex-moderator of IPT made a post on /r/trackers showcasing how there is zero communication or cooperation between staff members there, and that he was ultimately banned by a higher-level one over a disagreement. It was... pretty interesting to read.

Yep...suppose u are using a seedbox right? This is the safest practice ;)

Interesting how so many people get banned from TL.

Don't know if some of them have "overcheated" at least in the past. Now most users can get a decent seedbox, but sometimes that ain't enough as is time to restore a ratio to normal.

Agree with u, but still better ui compared to all these trackers that use templateshares' themes.

I always wondered what tracker recruitment thinks of seeding points. On one hand, you would think points don't factor into your decision of letting someone into a tracker if their ratio is great. On another hand, having a large amount of points signals your ability to not freak out about ratio, and keep going down the path of retention until you reach higher amounts of upload. I mean.. which is better? I personal just wish everyone could understand the purpose of most trackers so we can all go ratioless like BTN.

Speaking of Reddit and tracker bans... I'm seeing quite a few posts lately about people leaving or being banned from RED. I wonder what is really going on there.

Retention is very valuable. Even if a minimum seeding time is not mentioned as a requirement, most recruiters would prefer a member who uploads 1 TB over 100 months rather than one who uploads 100 TB in 1 month. Anyone can rent a seedbox and pump-and-dump new torrents until they have more buffer than they'll ever need, but long-term seeding demands effort. Anyway, to answer your actual question, since a large amount of bonus points generally correlates to big seeding times, I suppose it would help. But as bonus systems can often be gamed, showing more "direct" proof would be better. (As a curiosity, I just checked my client, and the oldest torrents are at 1 year 45 weeks and counting. Not bad, but I'm sure there are hardcore users with much more.)

As for the ratio-free model, it's a noble one, but unfortunately doesn't work everywhere. If you allow people to delete their snatched torrents after seeding them for X days, you'll need to give them strong reasons to not do exactly that (or make the value of X be in the quadruple digits at least :weirdo:), otherwise you'll only be good for newly-available stuff. If RED or PTP didn't enforce ratios, retention would suffer and so would their content selection, as there'd be way less incentive to upload; they'd be like a public tracker on this regard.

Speaking of Reddit and tracker bans... I'm seeing quite a few posts lately about people leaving or being banned from RED. I wonder what is really going on there.

A lot of people see RED merely as a gateway to "better" trackers, with no regards for its content. And what's the fastest way to meet the requirements to access the invite forum? Seedbox plus massive uploading of Deezer or Bandcamp rips from the current year. Their upload rules, class system and presence of autosnatchers encourage this, at least indirectly, and the whole situation is a vicious circle, as attempting to compete against the seedbox whores virtually demands that you become one yourself. That's what most of the flak is about.

If you're a downloader who doesn't care about ranking up or BitTorrent politics, however, the truth is they remain an excellent source of music. Just follow the golden rule: download, seed and keep your mouth shut... it's worked for me so far, and freeleech tokens help a lot!

One reason why I want in TV-Vault is because I love the archive nature of the tracker. It isn't as much about getting content the quickest, but making sure a copy of the content is secure for people to be able to experience. Being someone who helped with an archive for a mainstream radio program, and started an archive for a popular band, I get how some content that seems obvious in circulation can easily disappear. My point in all this... I don't get why TV-Vault is ratio based. I would think TVV would adopt ratioless before BTN, as newer releases have much higher snatchers and less need for retention unless packs are being created.

With that said... I don't get how a ratioless model can be of benefit to a non archival tracker. I'm not in all these trackers, but the benefits of bonus points can only go so far, right? You almost have to respect the tracker as a whole. You can tell members they won't get invites, can't make requests, or post in sections of the forum until they aquire so many points, but after you have reach the set amount, why would a member feel the need to continue seeding?

Years ago I would literally keep seeding everything I grabbed. The difference today is that hard drive space isn't getting cheaper and the file sizes are getting larger. I would download TV episodes at 400MB a show. Now you are looking at a GB each. How do you choose what to continue on with? How do tracker staff members cut members slack on retention?

I sort of fall into that category. I'm a big music guy. I also though know everything I have has most likely floated around the internet multiple times over the years. When it comes to music specifically, I'd find more value in a tracker that focuses on rare (or unreleased) content and live bootlegs. DIME is a decent source, but too few seeders, far too many upload restrictions.

Everyone tells me if I want into trackers I need to go through RED. I'm honest with them, saying I don't want to disrespect trackers by joining when I have zero interest in their content. They don't want that guy. I don't want to be that guy. Sooner or later trackers have to smarten up and evaluate their numbers. How much of the percentage of members are deactivated for this very reason?

I'm on TorrentLeech. I've never downloaded anything I actually wanted. I'm building stats. So.. What would my use for TL be once I'm in BTN and TVV? I don't see it. And I hate being like that.

I guess they decided the impact on retention, the defining feature of an archive tracker, would be negative overall. Or that it ultimately didn't matter, because the sort of member active on a place like this wouldn't have changed their torrenting habits significantly. It ain't broke, don't fix it.

As for BTN, even they have strong incentives to keep seeding in the form of lumens and traffic-based promotions, plus the ability to show you're a good sharer on an "elite" site, which may open the doors to other places (it's certainly more helpful than an IPT ratio proof).

after you have reach the set amount, why would a member feel the need to continue seeding?

Same reason as in public trackers: because they liked the content and want to help others find and obtain it. Also, while retention is of course always valuable, it is not necessarily a #1 goal. Most general trackers are happy with providing the latest stuff now, not particularly caring for its future; filelist.org even deleted all torrents 28 days after they were uploaded.

RED isn't a tracker that regular people are expected to use every day. More like a giant music library that you turn to when you need something very rare, or a good copy upgrade, and other sources are dried up. The vast majority of accounts will follow that activity pattern; the site is essentially "carried" by a minority of enthusiasts, but most members just download and seed, without ever uploading any torrents or participating in the community. That's just how it is and staff are aware of it, so don't expect mass prunings or changes to inactivity rules. The "library" aspect of it is also why there can be dozens of torrents for a single album and seeding back is so damn hard, but survival is absolutely possible by taking advantage of freeleech tokens and the required ratio system.

In a nutshell, if you really are a big music guy you will definitely have use for RED irrespective of your tastes, so don't worry about this. And it really is a gateway to other trackers, so your choices may be pretty limited in any case.

As for TL, it's a Top 3 general tracker that gets most new stuff with excellent speeds, I don't think it's possible to have zero use for that :gsmile:

What really do the incentives bring though? When internet speeds are good enough to get you the content you want within a matter of an hour, and slots don't matter as much if your tracker is ratioless, I don't see what they can provide. Maybe some free BTN merch or something. I don't know... I also feel as though if you are a good standing member at a tracker as high up there as BTN, you shouldn't have any problem getting into anywhere else.

This isn't to slam them. I'd love to be a member, but I don't see the true importance of points if there is no ratio or real need for a user class system. Half the point of even user classes is recruitment forums. If you are in BTN chances are you have access to one or two recruitment forums that can get you in to other trackers.

My point was.. What does TL have that say BTN doesn't? I'm sure BTN gets their content out just as quick and has just as good of speeds. You go on this journey and one tracker ends up replacing the other until you get the one you want.

Note that any and all incentives are an addition to the base reasons for seeding torrents: because it's the right thing to do and ensures content longevity. In fact, I'd like to think that's why people ultimately do it, since as you pointed out, the other rewards can lose their relevance over time.

Well, one advantage I can think of is that it's actually possible to join TL :weirdo:

I always wondered what tracker recruitment thinks of seeding pointsNot really seeding points but also considerations in seeding aspect when recruiting: #646 (https://www.sb-innovation.de/showthread.php?9925-Tracker-forums-that-offer-invites-to-other-trackers&p=359912&viewfull=1#post359912).
Besides, SSD and KeepFrds's user class requirements are heavily based around seeding points. The only english tracker I've seen that is similar is AR.

I don't want to be that guy.Just curious, if you were core decision maker of a TV private tracker, what recruit system would you design to screen "good" new members? Keep out as many cheaters (ironic to say but still), traders, hackers, FBI, people with ulterior motives for stealing user info and various other bad guys which cannot listed them all as possible. What would be a more effective recruit system than to recruit already validated people from other reputable trackers? (and more importantly and easily forgettable, without creating other new issues)

What would be a more effective recruit system than to recruit already validated people from other reputable trackers? (and more importantly and easily forgettable, without creating other new issues)

I want to first make one thing clear.

I don't believe recruitment for elite trackers are in the least bit about security. If you have a tracker that is widely known in the community and has been around for over 10 years, chances are it won't be invaded. Law enforcement in different parts of the world are always looking to take down copyright infringers. Why would we think for one moment, if they had any interest in getting into a widely known tracker, they wouldn't have found a way to do it already? I'm sorry.. Most government agencies have more high end talent working for them than any tracker in existence. That is how the system works. The government busts the criminals and then forces them to work for the government, providing better systems to take down more criminals.

It is the same with all the VPN nonsense. It does not make you any more secure. All it takes is a government to target a tracker and get a court order for VPN records. Sure.. A lot of VPN services claim to not log IPs, but they almost have to just to save their own asses.

As for how to recruit... Tracker etiquette acts as though every user is a one size fits all. We already know by studying business leadership that a one size fits all mentality does not lead to the best community. It is the reason why I wish points could be more valuable within trackers. By giving away points you can see that each individual user might have their own distinct place in the community. Not everyone is going to be a super seeder with unbelievable internet speeds and library to upload. Does that automatically mean they have nothing to offer?

Cheaters are going to cheat. They are also going to do everything possible to disguise their cheating. Case and point - this site alone has a forum dedicated to how to cheat in almost every tracker, and upon registration encourages people to pick a username they don't use on trackers. So, we know to a degree you will never stop cheating. I guess the question you have to ask yourself then is.. What do you do about leechers? If a tracker is well known to have recruitment forums, it is going to attract the highest level of cheaters. They know they don't have to register on 15 trackers just to get the invite they need. Leechers will just go to the trackers which have the content they want.

Let us for a moment take on the perspective of dissolving recruitment on high end trackers. Assuming you can prove you are on a tracker or two with at least a 1.0 ratio and/or a few months activity.

Maybe something like this upon entry (off the top of my head) :

New users are able to download a total of ________ torrents before being subjected to the Hit And Run rule. Hit And Run is based on a full year of activity. If a user is given a HnR they get a warning. A second HnR gives a suspension. Third HnR is account deletion. You can remove HnRs either by the yearly reset or using ___________ amount of points

Most people are honest in nature. If they don't enter the tracker overwhelmed by rules and regulations, and are told they can actually have whatever they want (the X amount of torrents pre-HnR), they will feel more willing to give back. If they are well aware that staff realizes everyone makes mistakes, it not only makes staff look friendly, but you no longer have this mentality of "stick it to the man". A year of membership is an extended period of time. Three is fair in allowing a mistake or calculated risk. Someone who does it repeatedly is an actual leecher. And the banning of the account comes at no price to the tracker. Three less seeds on three torrents, spread out within a year. For an elite tracker that has so much content, these leechers wouldn't even make a dent in your retention. Everyone gets reset each year. I can tell you the guy who gets 2 HnRs in 6 months and is stuck sweating it out for the next 6 months is going to be a ten times better member of the community next year. Why...? He actually had to take the time to learn not to be a leecher without someone breathing down their neck, telling them they can have their tracker reputation ruined any second. And who knows... they might have spent the last 6 months gaining points by contributing to the community in some way, simply because they knew there was no more room for mistakes.

This is all of course assuming we are talking about a well established tracker and not a new one. I do believe brand new trackers should be more selective. not only because they do pose a bit more of a security risk, but also because you don't have an established member base to rely on. I personally feel those of us who have been at this a long time shouldn't have to feel like we are guilty until proven innocent every time we want into a tracker.

The reason asking "do you have better recruit policy design" is that you seem to be complaining about this collection game that trackers force us to play. As users, all of us would certainly like to be able to join the site we want to join directly without stepping stone, but the point is not what we want, but to undertand the intentions, considerations, and concerns of the site's staff.

Bad behavior in eyes of tracker staff is not just the inability to seed, or complete HR.
1. Cheating is one aspect, and we do observe that people on cabal sites cheat significantly less or not cheat at all. Does this have anything to do with the recruit policies of them? I think it does.
2. Account and invite trading is another aspect, let's leave it at that.
3. Just like few days ago U2 banned a person who kept reposting U2 exclusive content on nyaa, in the eyes of tracker, reposting exclusive which disallow to repost is also bad behavior.
4. and also deliberately remove the suffix of release group when reposting, or even changed to their own.
........ etc. too lazy to list them all

A successful recruit policy design (again, to tracker staffs, not us members) is to be able to have those who have all these bad behaviors kicked out, or let the members already join to reduce or no longer have these behaviors at least on their sites. They call this member quality control. By this standard, I don't think "collection game" is the best recruit policy design either and I hate it too, but I do understand staffs think it's the least bad one. Statistically speaking, recruiting already validated people from other reputable trackers is always least risky to trackers.

The question of whether private trackers are or can be "infiltrated" is a moot one. I joined or was given the opportunity to join all major ones when I was a teenager with nothing better to do. The big traders and sellers in the forums that allow both obviously found a way in, too. And an employee who gets paid to accomplish it is going to be even more motivated.

The one thing that keeps them safe is their comparatively small size. It's easier and more effective to go after public indexers with literally millions of active users than attempting to take down a private tracker with 20,000 members that currently demands going through a recruitment ladder to join in the first place. Even so, exceptions exist: EliteTorrents, OiNK, What.cd, ScT, BCG.

As for recruitment, there is an implicit trust that can be placed on someone who has reached a certain user class on a tracker, especially those that are hard to keep a good ratio on, join in the first place, or both. And you can always fine-tune your applicants by adding additional requirements. No guarantees in any case, just a strong correlation which mostly works.

A piece of advice that gets ignored frustratingly often, may I add...

I think "complaining" would be the wrong word. I just believe logically speaking the collection game does nothing for the true intentions and considerations of the trackers. This is of course to state each tracker's inability to publicly state what their intentions, considerations, and concerns are in regards to membership. And why do they do this..? It seems to be done all in the name of elitism and this sense of secret society. I was (for example) in a tracker IRC channel where I was almost banned for asking questions about tracker rules and recruitment, being told the tracker is "like Fight Club".

If reorganizing the entire system is wrong, maybe creating a massive recruitment forum outside of all trackers would be best. Require users to give a specific amount of proof to enter. There will be no more useless collections and deactivations.

1. Cheating is one aspect, and we do observe that people on cabal sites cheat significantly less or not cheat at all. Does this have anything to do with the recruit policies of them? I think it does.

3. Just like few days ago U2 banned a person who kept reposting U2 exclusive content on nyaa, in the eyes of tracker, reposting exclusive which disallow to repost is also bad behavior.

Let me address these individually.

1 - The internet is a strange place. Tricking someone into thinking they know you is quite easy. So, when you go through all these extensive interviews, proofs, and so on, you still as a staff member know just as little about the person as when they walked in your channel. This site is a perfect example. Tons of people on here cheat. I bet they can pass almost any tracker interview out there, simply because they know the right things to say or do. This alone shows that these recruitment methods solve nothing more than piece of mind. If a staff member feels secure then they must be secure, even though the truth says otherwise.

2 - Invite trading is a muddy subject. I agree most members who are let in by this method are not good members. I also know without it you will have a hard time with your community growing and allowing different perspective to take part. I'm a great example of this concept. I've been torrenting on and off since 2003. I have had a lot of friends over the years who have torrented, but fell off the map due to life's basic complications. Now I'm the only one left. So... Since all my friends abandoned torrenting, should I by association be screwed out of my want for torrenting? After all.. getting invites from people you don't know in real life is generally frowned upon by trackers. So, I'm stuck trying to convince some guy I don't know, who is trying everything possible not to let me in, that I would be of service to him? Look back at #1. My convincing can lead me to be no better or worse than the guy just getting randomly invited by some chump on Reddit.

3 - What exactly makes content "exclusive"? I understand on TV trackers there are cappers who want their caps specific to a tracker. I understand wanting your efforts to get noticed. But the whole concept is a bit silly. That HD or 4K cap you just made is equally available on so many more trackers. It isn't like you are the only one who had the ability to access that particular show in that particular quality, and now want it only spread among a particular community. Exclusivity is another term for material within elitism. I wish all these people would understand - once you release content to a large group of individuals, it no longer becomes exclusive.

They call this member quality control. By this standard, I don't think "collection game" is the best recruit policy design either and I hate it too, but I do understand staffs think it's the least bad one. Statistically speaking, recruiting already validated people from other reputable trackers is always least risky to trackers.

So then what has been tried and hasn't worked in the past? If you disagree with both my approach and the approach of the collection method, what would be a good replacement?

Is the business of trackers (outside of the trackers themselves) really that big? I wouldn't think you would make but a few thousand dollars a year on selling invites. Even so.. If recruitment is as good as it is with all these strict methods, how do sellers still easily get so many invites?

I agree. Though I question.. If say every user that wanted to be on RED was on RED, I still think the member count would be lower than half that of public trackers. I would say even lower if the trackers still went by ratio/HnR/decativation standards.

As for recruitment, there is an implicit trust that can be placed on someone who has reached a certain user class on a tracker, especially those that are hard to keep a good ratio on, join in the first place, or both. I have no issue with proofs. I don't care if you want a specific ratio, user class, time frame of membership, etc. I have a problem with the snobby elitism. To give a personal example, I was about to be given a RED invite. They wanted to see proof on trackers. I gave them my two best - one with a ratio of 24 14 years membership and that I was staff back in 2010, the other 4TB shared over 4 years with an over 1.0 ratio. I was not given the invite simply because they weren't "reputable" trackers. I get wanting to filter out cheaters. I also don't know how much you can tell if I am cheating or not based on a screenshot.

In addition to the factors I mentioned before, having to spend even a short amount of time preparing some proofs/profile links, plus maybe a quick explanation of why they want to be invited, makes people feel like they're "earning" their new membership and filters out the totally lazy. Or as I said some years ago...

I had a look at [animetorrent.me's] application form, and it seems pretty reasonable to me. Remember, "invite application" does not mean "free invite". You have to show that you're aware of what the tracker offers, actually have an interest on that, and know what's required to be considered a good member. Displaying the ability to string a few coherent sentences doesn't hurt either. Obviously, none of those things guarantee you will actually be a good member, but they generally correlate.

A few thousand dollars is a lot of money in the countries most prominent sellers come from, and that's not criticism or discrimination, as I live in one such place.

Anyway, regarding how to obtain invites, let's face it: all you need to do on trackers that award them automatically is use a gigabit seedbox for a month, plus possibly engage on a marathon session of uploading torrents to meet class requirements. Then, simply sit back and watch them pour in - trackers with traffic requirements are a minority easily dealt with by your seedbox, and potential demotions from inactive uploads getting pruned is solved by uploading much more than is required for your desired class. Having multiple accounts makes the process even faster. This strategy would work at RED, for instance: with minimal investment (gigabit boxes are fairly cheap, other expenses like electricity and Internet access you had to pay for anyway) you can start getting invites as quickly as within two weeks, which as I recall sell for around $50 each.

For the ones that are recruitment-only, just play the ladder game and sell your account (or newly-created Gmail address with the invite message inside) when you finally obtain it. Hacking is another option, on its own or combined with the others. Hacked accounts are sold every day; their true owners may attempt to recover them, of course, but once you get paid that becomes someone else's problem (see https://old.reddit.com/r/trackers/comments/6lhvkg/).

Interesting...

I'm not all too tech savy. And as (I think) I've said before, I'm too afraid of getting caught cheating and such.

Ladder game used to be a lot easier. I've been at it now a few months minus the trackers I've been on for many years that are hated by other trackers.

I've never paid for a seedbox. I don't even know if I'm set up to use one. I'd imagine if a torrent has 30 seeds and 20 of those 30 seeds have seedboxes, we are all still fighting for minimal credit.

I'm all for applications. Maybe that is a better method than having people line up in IRC chats and wait to be tested on stuff.

To be honest i cheated on all the trackers i was in and got banned during the early days once by thinking i kept the speed at 1024kbps but i didn't and it was on 100024 kbps i got banned the next day while this was a pure accident of me being high/blind the rest of the times it wasn't anything major i.e low ratio during the early days, so cheating is really safe these days as long as your not a retard who cheats at high speed and keep low seed time. most of the stuff i cheat on are seeded for atleast 6 months so the ratio on them is totally plausible and plus they are popular stuff so that makes it even safer. 1 tracker i got banned was the .biz or "the" trackers signed up and was asked for raw ratio's on the tracker they recruit like this is really retarded mechanism either they are collecting emails and ip's to share with some fed or else they have some weird as fuck motive i have no clue about like IP and RAW ratio from those site to keep the users safe from ratio drops doesn't mean that you should just ban them on first sight. sighs well those staffs probably have bad or good intention and i all i can do is stay away from them.

indeed but "they need something live/realtime to talk in" most irc's are a graveyard as you have really less chance of getting your account back whether your legitimate user or not.

Ladder game used to be a lot easier.

That's because more alternatives existed and trackers couldn't be too choosy if they wanted to grow (see my comment in the other thread about joining PTP through open signups). Check 173333 out. It's a list of reviews that have been posted here since 2009, divided by category. Pay close attention to the TV, movies and music lists. How many of those still exist?

I've never paid for a seedbox either, but that doesn't mean I haven't used them :wwink: Anyway, actually setting one up is the realm of advanced users, who will usually rent a dedicated server or VPS and configure it for torrents. All providers will offer everything prepackaged for you, you only need to log in through the interface of your choice with your assigned username and password.

As for swarms of seedboxes talking to each other, autosnatched torrents on RED are a prominent example of that. Lack a box yourself and you'll either get only a 1:1 ratio if you're the original uploader, or almost nothing if you aren't. You're forced to either accept this, or become part of the problem.

I'm all for applications. Maybe that is a better method than having people line up in IRC chats and wait to be tested on stuff.

If you swap IRC interviews for invite applications, then RED won't be able to check if you're "cheating" by reading the interview preparation site, nor will OppaiTime manage to put you on the spot by asking for dickpics :whmm: It's sort of like having an open book exam vs. a real one.

Anyway, I don't find their desire to have a one-on-one, real time conversation particularly bothersome. It's queues, waiting times and uncertainty about when you'll be called that are the problem :wfrown:

To be honest i cheated on all the trackers i was in and got banned during the early days once by thinking i kept the speed at 1024kbps but i didn't and it was on 100024 kbps i got banned the next day

A lot of people got banned in the past for using the wrong digit separators in RM. Since this is an English-speaking forum, we use dots for decimals and commas for thousands, and it made sense to assume the program worked the same way. However, it actually followed your system locale settings, so if the symbols' meaning was reversed, "123.45" KB/s would magically become 123 MB/s... a nasty surprise if not detected in time.

Staff at The*.click (formerly The*.bz) routinely treat both applicants and actual users like shit, confident that they will put up with it, as alternatives to those sites are either few and nowhere good enough or nonexistent. So far it's working out for them, but they're a prime example of why I advice everyone to not get involved with tracker communities, just download and seed. Well, MAM may be an exception.

I'm experiencing this on TL right now. I have to seed for 10 days. So, I have a list of torrents I have seeded since day one (to show retention), and I am routating in and out freeleech torrents every 10 days (the HnR requirment) until I hit PU and can show my stats to get invites. What I'm doing is trying to grab freeleech torrents when they only have one or two seeds with the hopes I get something from it. Sometimes I am getting lucky and grabbing a few gigs, others I'm only getting 1 or 2.

I'm also afraid to use points for seed bonus because it looks better to recruiters if I am able to keep those points in tact.

On another note..

I'll put this here (since it isn't worth starting a new thread for).

BTN might have a bit of an issue now, no?

I guess accounts were being banned/deactivated if users didn't log in over a 6 hour period of time (?) In response users were going to their IRC for help and not getting it due to the overflow of users and small amount of active staff. I'd say this causes a big problem with the time it would take to talk to each user, make sure they are who they say they are, and enable accounts.

So.. I know I'm holding out for a miracle here but... They might be stuck activating all deactivated accounts for a short period of time so users can log in with no issue. The long deactivated accounts would mostly stay deactivated because those users either forgot they had an account or have given up on trying to get it back. Accounts with obvious bad rep might throw up red flags, but they can't possible have the time to review all deactivated accounts. So, I'm occasionally trying to log into my account to see if I can catch a break.

Jokes on you i got declined on one user request thread once because i had around 20-10k points and around 15-10Tb upload. His words were, "Your ratio and upload's are too good to be real" I mean sure i cheated before on trackers and am still alive but too good to be real is bizarre these days.

Back to my point on how unreasonable tracker staffs are. They want reasons not to let in members rather than weeding out bad members and letting in the good.

I'm talking about a smaller amount of points. I don't want to say spend all my points to add 100GB to my upload and have little to no points. It becomes obvious to recruiters that my upload is a lot of credit.

To buff your ratio on TL: find any new and very active movie or TV episode torrent, then download only the sample or first RAR part as applicable. If there is no sample or split RARs, grab a small (5~10%) portion of the torrent, then set the priority on everything to "do not download" and you'll immediately begin partial-seeding it. Permaseed and repeat the cycle with newer uploads. Credit will quickly build up over time; if your timing and upload speed are good, the ROI can end up being ridiculously high.

As for the BTN login drama, all trackers log disabled channel conversations and other noteworthy data about accounts on their user notes. See the 2019 32pag.es staff hack at https://ibb.co/album/nqOLFa; the amount of data collected is insane (profile views, for fuck's sake!). No matter how overworked staff are, they'll look at this information before deciding whether to reverse any ban as a matter of policy. If you intend to turn this crisis into an opportunity, I'm afraid you'll be wasting your time.

That guy obviously didn't want to invite you. A quick look at the top 10 uploaders table on any tracker will tell you that 10~15 TB of upload isn't "too good to be real" anymore. Someone in Pornolab had 125 TB. Even RED has accounts in the mid 40s... all you need is a good seedbox, time, and the ability to delude yourself into believing such a buffer is both desirable and necessary.

I just continue to do freeleech torrents. Since my connection is slow due to me currently living with family on a shared network, it isn't working out all too well. But hey.. I guess slow and steady wins the race?

I wonder if partial torrenting (like you say) is a way to get around the HnR rule. I don't want to clog up my hard drive with these large files, so I am only doing two or three at a time while keeping up my rentention ones.

I honestly don't know, although IPT is the only tracker that's been reported to monitor hit & runs on partial torrents. But (as I said before) you should permaseed all of them if you want to make the most out of this tactic, and its disk space requirements are low, so it shouldn't make a difference in any case.

but then again my conscience comes telling me not to pay to pirate.

In my case, it's my conscience and wallet :wtinfoil: With that said, if you take full advantage of freeleech tokens and the required ratio system, you can get away with a lot of downloading without having to upload a single byte in return.

In fact, it's amazing how generous they are on that regard, and the paranoid side of me thinks we should enjoy it before they reevaluate their stance. And maybe, just maybe, do something about autosnatchers, seedbox abuse and Deezer upload spam too. The whole scheme will collapse under its own weight one day... once you've buffered enough TBs by raping everyone else with your gigabit box, and made enough throwaway uploads to secure a slot among the high user classes, there's no incentive to seed or upload anything else anymore.

Nat
17.02.21, 22:51
125TB must not be a big deal. There is an achievement on TL of uploading 750TB. Not sure if anyone has ever done that without cheating, but a 1500 point give seems minor compared to the amount of help you would have provided members of the tracker.

But... If you already have 750TB upload I guess you have very little use for points.

The matter of whether these upload milestones can be reached is moot. If there's something I learned during my MMORPG days, it's that there's always a bigger fish. The real question is, unless you're an uploader... why. No one needs or could use up such a buffer, but the mere fact of having it means many other people are getting little to no upload on those torrents, thus being forced to overrely on bonus points or freeleech to survive, or simply lose their accounts due to low ratio. And in the event they get a seedbox of their own or cross-seed from other trackers, they become part of the problem and make it even worse for everyone else. (Interestingly, cheating is a third way that can actually boost the tracker's economy in this scenario, by preventing bans for low ratio while allowing legitimate users to get their wished-for upload...)

I wish all trackers recorded and displayed seeding time as prominently as they do with upload and download traffic. Seeing an account with several hundred TBs uploaded will instantly earn my disrespect due to the aforementioned seedbox douchebaggery. Seeing the same account with a "normal" upload but an average seeding time of many years would get my admiration instead. It helps that seeding can be faked, but the passing of time cannot =]

Another reason why ratioless is the way to go.

I never understood the game of "who has the higher ratio" or "who has the most points". The objective here is to upload content and make sure it stays up for as long as possible. So, if I can prove an ability to upload a file or two, and my retention is solid, should anything else really matter? Maybe length of standing as a member, but even that shows through with solid retention. Who cares who people get the file from, just that they get the file.

I am currently seeding five torrents on TL. Of those five three have been seeded for 90 days. Combine that with two more recent torrents and I am getting little to no ratio and only 2 to 3 points per 24 hours seeded. You almost can't get the upload because of seedboxes, yet can't use the points to get the upload due to a lack of points for the upload.

Perspective.. At that rate I would need to seed 250 days in order to gain enough points for 10GB of upload credit. Seeding a full year will only get you another GB or two. Not enough to even download most non freeleech files.

anon
20.02.21, 20:32
Another reason why ratioless is the way to go.

For TL in particular, I think it would actually work out well due to the sheer size of their userbase. Even if say, only 5% of their members has good long-term seeding habits, that still translates to several thousand people.

On the other hand, it would kill one of the biggest reasons to donate for VIP status, and given the speed at which they added freeleech and bonus points... if ratios are to be removed at all, I'd expect it to happen around 2035.

I am currently seeding five torrents on TL.

Well, I think I found your problem here. Five is a tiny amount... seedboxes or not, it's no wonder you're barely getting upload. You should permaseed as many torrents as possible. Think about it: if each one of them has a 1% chance of uploading data, you're much more likely to upload something every day if you have at least a hundred (obviously these aren't random probabilities, but that's the main idea). Plus the resource usage of "losing", inactive torrents is negligible anyway.

Even on a bad day, you'll at least get many more bonus points :wgreedy:

I just don't feel the need to go passed PU on TL. Is there any reason I should?

By the time my upload creeps up to halfway there, I'll have enough points to grab the other half to reach the 200GB.

Most of my torrenting is TV focused and based on filling existing collections (where half that content is freeleech).

If MTV gets up and running I can practically dump TL and only log in to save activity.

Maybe that is wishful thinking though.

Higher classes have lower seeding time requirements and greater "interest rates" on the bonus points system. I think they can also go inactive for longer.

bitseduce for inactivity I think. I knew a guy from bitseduce who got into AOM. Probably the only guy I know in the entire "torrenting hemisphere" who has an AOM account. That's how rare AOM is. He had both AOM and FTN which was considered a great feat back in the day.

Pedros btmusic - Cheating or inactivity but my guess is inactivity.

indietorrents - inactivity

DB9 - The tracker of goats. I think I got disabled for inactivity. They just had dubstep. Was quite easy to get in, now it's hard I heard.
